Iranian missiles ready to hit Tel Aviv says cleric

Iran will hit Tel Aviv with its medium-range missiles if attacked, said an influential senior cleric on Tuesday.

"If they (U.S. and Israel) militarily attack Iran ... They should be afraid of the day when our missiles with 2,000 km range will hit Tel Aviv," Ahmad Khatami told state television.

Khatami sits on the Assembly of Experts, the body of 86 clerics that constitutionally supervises the country's most powerful man, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Arms experts say Iran's Shahab-3 missiles have a maximum range of around 2,000 km (1,240 miles), meaning they are capable of hitting Israel as well as U.S. military bases in the Gulf.

U.S. officials accuse Iran of planning to equip its missiles with nuclear warheads. Iran says it has no desire to have atomic weapons and is only developing nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, such as electricity generation.

Iranian military commanders have repeatedly warned they would not hesitate to deploy the Shahab-3 missiles if Iran came under attack over its disputed nuclear programme.

Me thinks there is a possibility, if Iran strikes at Israel, they will strike too at Iraq or Afghanistan at American targets.

National suicide for Iran.

I have read that Iran has been very nervous about the possibility of being invaded. that's how I read this.

Also, Israel saw weapons that they did not expect, but now they know about them and can prepare defenses. They are taking some to show the Russians. Bush made an issue with Putin over small arms trade and has recently embargoed three Russian companies.

Here comes another push to keep developed countries from selling arms to third world dictators. A big lapse was algore ignoring laws that forbade aid to Russia, if they helped Iran with nukes.

I always said during the Iran/Iraq war that if the predatory arms merchants would leave those people alone, all they could do would be to throw rocks at each other. That probably would not be on the news 24/7.

If you tghink Hezbollah won, then you haven't been watching the same war as most have been watching.

The Hezbos got their butts handed to them. Israel achieved all its objectives militarily. The only victory the Hezzies can claim is that they can show the world the damage they caused Lebanon at the hands of the Israelis.

Sure, they have the range.

But do they have the accuracy?

Nope.

Maybe the Gaza Strip and Syria won't be a problem anymore,,,

Also, August 22 still looms for another 7 days.

If Wallace wasn't such an media liberal maniac looking for glory after retirement, he could have taken in a Trojan Horse as a gift to Mr. Iranian Behavior Specialist.

The cease fire by the UN is bogus and will only allow the Hezbos to regroup. A bad move.

I wouldn't be surprised if the UN negotiated with Hezbollah to cease firing rockets in order to regain some credibility, so that Kofi & Friends can say, "Hey, look, we brokered a ceasefire, we aren't useless."

Is most of Israel's political infrastructure still in Tel Aviv? Haven't they moved it to Jerusalem yet?

They might be not willing to hit Jerusalem, for obvious reasons.
