Reagan wasn't president in 1980, and AIDS hadn't even been named yet.

True. But look up history. Liberals blamed Reagan for it. Along with the crack epidemic to "purge" the USA of blacks.

"..I do not judge the person I judge the sin..."

I agree with brownsfan. Seem like God judges the sinner along with the sin.

Judge not lest ye be judged is the most widely quoted verse, especially well known by non christians. I look at it this way...... if I am holding others accountable to a certain standard, I will be held to that same standard. I like higher standards, not lower standards.

I think God is more of a strict loving teacher, hoping for, and trying to help us learn lessons.

Evil is a product of Satan.

Some suffering actually benefits us, and is therefore not incompatible with a loving, moral God. Physical pain teaches us our limitations and enables us to survive. When we touch a hot stove or fire and experience pain, we learn to avoid doing so in the future. Other forms of pain are the result of discipline, either from human teachers or from God himself, or are simply consequences of poor choices. Without these forms of suffering, we wouldn't learn to be moral, responsible people.

Other suffering can't so easily be viewed as beneficial, but there are reasons for it occuring. Some suffering (e.g. disease and natural disasters) is the result of Adam and Eve's rebellion against God. Other forms of evil are the result of beings, both human and demonic, choosing to disobey God. God is not passive with regards to evil, but deals with evil by bringing good out of it and ultimately punishing it and bringing it to an end.

God created people with free will, meaning that we can choose to love and obey God or not. It wouldn't be very meaningful if we loved or obeyed God because we were unable to choose otherwise. A computer or talking doll can be made to say "I love you," but it doesn't have the same religious, spiritual or heartfelt meaning as when a human freely chooses to those three words. Thus, in order for anyone's choice to love and follow God to be meaningful, God permits everyone to choose freely what they will do.

God permitting all of that is a product of His teaching, hoping that we learn from our mistakes and correct them in order that we may be more like Him in a lot of ways.

We're not perfect. He knows that. But we can be perfected if we look toward Him and not toward ourselves.

Gay pediatrician. Two words that should never go together.

I knew someone would notice that. And that was 25 years ago.

Would you have even wondered about such a thing back then, even though gay rights had been around a while?

God does judge the sinner because He alone is able to do so righteously. It would be easy for me to judge bank robbers and pedophiles but that is NOT our job (unless you are on a jury). I have enough trouble keeping my life as sin-free without comparing to others because others are not the standard. The best example is the parable of Luke 18:10. Don't be the Pharisee.

Read the whole thing.

OK. And...

This article is liberal propaganda from the gitgo.

Another irrational liberal diatribe from an irrational liberal magazine.

We live in an age os serious irrationality and inability or refusal to reason. The AIDS epidemic and the reaction to, discussion of and taboos about are one of the best examples. It is pellegra all over, yet it is 25 years and still can't be or won't be admitted that the diseases is broadly, evenly fraudulently diagnosed and that the etiology is environment based not infectious.

But this is the ultimate political correctness and it is huge huge huge money all the way around.

homosexuals are still upset over the restrictions agains blood donation. They ARE asked about their behavior.

a positive blood test is an indicator of a high risk group. They can't hide that.

This article is liberal propaganda from the gitgo.

But intelligent as these things go. That's why it's important to read.

'Reason' is in general more libertarian than liberal, and has some influence on the right.

Remember the CBS "documentary" which tried to LIE by saying reagan wanted homosexuals to die. The outright lie was quickly exposed but even to this day homosexuals use the misinformation as a talking point. A lie repeated often enough becomes truth.

BTW does anyone know what the (scientifically please) life expectency of an hiv infected individual is these days? Last time the media was reporting 8-10 years max.

my friend did manage to enjoy the thriving downtown gay club scene with some frequency.

Not having read any farther, why do I get the feeling that later in this tale of woe, we're going to be expected to feel sorry for his "friend," whose perverted dallyings resulted in his dying a horrible death from AIDS?

Maybe consequences to our behaviors come to prevent humankind from completely destroying itself.

Yep. It was named GRID first and AIDS only much later - 1984, IIRC. Political activists tend to have a somewhat selective memory.

One simple act would have stopped the epidemic in its tracks - closing the bathhouses. Even some gay activists said so at the time, but nobody had the political courage to do so.

You just gave the best synopsis of our purpose and God's response that I've seen. If I were as good with words I would have explained it all the very same way. Thank you.

Additionally, there is the concern that if pharmaceutical companies are not allowed to profit from the medicines they invent, their incentive produce new ones in the future will be impaired.
I can't believe this level of pragmatism could be in an article about AIDS. This author actually articulated the basic fact that escapes all the other "drugs should be free" advocates.

It's a good thing that, as George Clooney pointed out, Hollywood was so out in front on this. They cranked out a movie only twenty years after the threat was identified.
