Why does the media act like this is new? They've been insulting country music fans since their first non apology apology. They've been slamming Toby Keith for years.

A more insightful music editor would write about how this policy of not permitting bands who are not in the rotation playlist will not get promoted.

Prince left WB for awhile and released albums on his own label. He toured major venues and would generally book another name on the bill with him (Santana, Sly Stone's backing band, etc...).

Prince wasn't getting any airplay (which is one reason he left the majors) but he was still an established act. With this policy, he couldn't advertise his show.

Building off that idea, what of a band with no radio support that toured constantly (like Iron Maiden pre-MTV)?

It is radio like this that stifles new bands and "underground" acts that can draw but cannot be heard by the masses.

Radio and the music industry seem bad right now because that is the deliberate design. Too many acts are being ignored by the industry for it to be accidental.

It's as if the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, The Kinks, and The Who had been drawing crowds for years with no airplay and Chad & Jeremy were getting promoted as "the real deal".

Bill Graham was in concert promotion to make money but he would stand in the way of acts that he thought weren't socially conscious enough or "good" (he'd just shrug them off as "novelty"). It is that arbiter of taste who himself HAS NO TASTE that is ruining music.
