IL: Obama Warns of Gas Guzzling Cars in Town Hall Meeting

Illinois Senator Barack Obama warns citizens at his 50th Town Hall meeting about gas guzzling. It was among many points made to the standing room only audience at the Metropolis Community Center. Obama spoke on everything from DC politics to global warming. He says part of the blame for the world's higher temperatures rests on gas guzzling vehicles. Obama says consumers can make the difference by switching to higher mileage hybrids. Today the Senator said, "It would save more energy, do more for the environment and create better world security than all the drilling we could do in Alaska."

After the meeting... Obama left in a GMC Envoy after admitting to favoring SUV's himself.

Our local paper covered this meeting in today's edition. Several of the folks who were there said that they felt they had just met 'the next president' of the USA. Stupid hillary! voters...

I wonder if the Senator will "warn" about how much fuel the private jets he likes to ride burn.

Aside from illustrating that powerful and beautiful elites are happy to take full advantage of the double standard of petroleum usage: Al Gore can burn up tens of thousands of tons of jet fuel warning about Global Warming, but you are free to brag, like some libs do, about the great gas mileage they get in the Prius they use to run around town in.

Personally, I think we must resist viewing fuel usage as if it were competition in a zero-sum game. The game is not zero-sum, aside from the fact that government has rigged it through banning drilling in vast areas of the US. The laws of supply and demand cannot be suspended, except by the credible threat of deadly force.

We in the US are awash in a sea of hydrocarbons in various forms. A lot of conversion technologies have break-even costs that are below the present world price of crude oil.

When we think that if I buy a gallon of gasoline, there won't be a gallon for the other fellow, we are sunk and we will give up our liberties and freedom to Senators who will happily tell us they know how to solve the problem.

Yes, solve it just like Nixon, Ford and Carter did in the 1970s- lines at service stations, enforced car-free days, where you will have to get a ration card.

Obama was born to a white mother and African father. He was about 2 when his father went back to Africa. He was mostly raised by his white grandparents in Hawaii.

Acknowledging the white half (and white upbringing) would not be convenient since the African-American label is worth so much more politically.

Yes, I was amused by her Oscar award ceremony, when they made such a fuss about the "African-American" winners, and showed her thoroughly white mother in the audience.

It wasn't all that long ago that mixed race people tried to pass as "white", now they try to pass as "African-American".

Get real. Distinguished members of Congress certainly should exempt themselves (and certain other Democratic constituencies, such as professional welfare recipients, illegal aliens, and campaign financiers) from otherwise compulsory energy conservation. I get that low mileage on my mid-size Jeep Liberty...IT PISSES ME OFF. It's NOT a big SUV...

My '05 Tahoe is a BIG, "Green" hate vehicle.

I routinely get 17+ mpg here in town, A/C on full - desert, ya know.

I've made 3 highway trips (1,000 miles +) - 21.8, 21.5 and 21.7.

Large motor - 5.3L and low end gears.

Very happy with the mileage.

Of course we should all stop this, like O'sama O'bama said.

When I can get, for a reasonable price, a "hybr-Suv" that...1) fits my 6'6" frame, 2) pulls the 24 ft trailer up the hill - at speed, 3) has room for the kids, and 4) doesn't require a Hazmat response in an accident.
