Judge lets teens finish season before serving sentence for fake deer prank
KENTON, Ohio - A judge decided two high school athletes can complete the football season this fall before they serve 60-day jail sentences for a car crash caused by a decoy deer placed in a country road. Two teens were injured.
I shouldnt be doing this, but Im going to. I see positive things about participating in football, Judge Gary McKinley said Tuesday.
Dailyn Campbell, a 16-year-old quarterback for Kenton High, and 17-year-old teammate Jesse Howard will serve their time in a juvenile detention center. They were also ordered to write a 500-word essay titled Why I Should Think Before I Act.
Last November, teens stole the decoy from a mans home, created a base to help it stand upright because it had only two legs, and then drove up and down the road, watching as drivers swerved to avoid it, prosecutor Brad Bailey said.

A very stupid thing to do.
I see positive things about Natalie Portman giving me a sponge bath. How many car accidents do I need to cause to make this happen. Really I'm serious, who's life do I need to risk to make this happen?
Howard Dean ought to have to do this.
;-)
this judge needs to look up the word priority
Instead of playing football, these two selfish idiots should be doing community service by nursing the victim of their "fun" who has a broken neck and the one who has brain damage. Maybe that way they'd learn just how stupid their prank was.
Timing of a jail sentence to accomodate soemone's life, especially one of such short length is not unusual.
The judge is completely idiotic, but this is becoming a characteristic of our culture. There is sports-mania, and a complete loss of any sense of justice, or the good of society (which is other people).
I see no harm at all in depriving some dumb, inconsiderate jocks of their play-time for one season. That would have at least an outside chance of teaching them (and others) a lesson. Certainly their sports activity has been hitherto completely ineffective in their civilization.
The idea that sports makes for better people might once have been true, but not in our current society. It has become a shibboleth and a false god. It encourages mindless aggression, poor sportsmanship, drug use, inconsiderate behavior, violence, and stupidity.
Maybe that judge played sports as a dopey kid, and this is the result.
The judge should have stopped right there, saying to HIMSELF "I should think before I act" and sent them directly to juvenile detention without football and collecting $200.
This idiot needs to write a 5,000 word essay on the same topic.
This is one case where a civil lawsuit is warranted. Everything the families of these two jerks have should be sold and the money used for the victims. I'd imagine mom and dad will require more than a 500 word essay.
Well said.
