andy "Duke" Cunningham stumbled to the microphone. Heavily medicated, the former congressman from San Diego had to be propped up by federal marshals. He had lost 90 pounds since he pleaded guilty, and his rumpled suit hung on him like a deflated parachute silk. The fearless aviator and war hero who claimed to be the inspiration for the cocky ace played by Tom Cruise in Top Gun had vanished.
Standing in his stead on March 3, 2006, was an aging criminal whose droopy hound-dog face crumbled as he admitted taking $2.4 million in bribes from defense contractors. "I did it to myself. I could have said no, and I didn't. It was me, Duke Cunningham." He broke down as he recounted his crimes, including conspiracy to commit bribery, evading taxes, and committing wire and mail fraud. "I will forfeit my freedom, my reputation, my worldly possessions, and, most importantly, the trust of my friends and family."

"My client faces an uphill battle as far as people believing she is not part of her husband's conspiracy. I don't believe she benefited from anything Duke did, but every aspect of her life has been affected by the suspicion." It is very hard to imagine someone so willfully oblivious to the couple's finances.

Just out of curiosity did Kitty Kelley serve in Vietnam. Because if she didn't she of course has no right to criticize Mr. Cunningham.

I have been silent about this case since Duke was convicted.
This article makes me want to reconsider.
Nancy Cunningham is a liar, a money-grubbing climber, a status seeking wannabe, and the PRIMARY reason after Duke's own insecurities that the man is in jail today.
She knew EVERYTHING he was doing, in fact, she DROVE him to do more, until he had done way too much in search for the lifestyle that she demanded. Picture a the man who put Miramar on the map being reduced to selling his autobiography on the base out of the back of his car!
I am OUTRAGED by this article, it is pure BULL$HIT, and I hope that all of us who know Duke will refute this article in public. I dont right now intend on speaking to the media, but if this article takes hold and is considered the definitive version of events, I will be going to the press myself.
DAMMIT!

I admit to never having heard this aspect of the situation, which is not surprising to me.
I had a lot of anger against him for tarnishing the Naval Service (even though he was in private life, he was still associated in the public eye with Naval Aviation) and the conservative movement in general. You sound like you know something about him and his personal situation which also does not surprise me, given the Naval Aviation community.
This is just as sad to me, in some ways is even more distressing. Love drives people to do some lousy things to keep it. And she does sound like a conniving jerk, to be polite. Anyone who teams up with Kitty Kelly has to be.

There are no excuses for the Duke's crimes. He has rightfully accepted the blame for them, and is paying for them.

You cant fly out of Miramar during the 80s and 90s without knowing Duke. He was one of my instructors.

Make no mistake; Duke was a first class a-hole. Nobody denies that. He should die in prison. However, I am outraged that Nancy Cunningham, for whom nothing was ever enough, is now calling the man who because of his personal insecurities figured he had to buy her love, is now calling him Mr. Cunningham and acting as a victim. That she whored herself out to Kitty Kelley, is bespeaking of her character. It is tragedy enough that Duke's legacy is tarnished, but for this bitch to act innocent is enough to make me sick to my stomach.

andy "Duke" Cunningham stumbled to the microphone. Are they referring to the night he won his Congressional seat?
To: Pukin Dog
Pukin, I believe you. I know some stuff about both of the Cunninghams from time spent in political work in San Diego. Nancy is bad news.

WASHINGTON Former Rep. Randy Duke Cunningham stuffed cash and dirty clothes into a duffel bag and left it for his wife the night before he was sentenced to prison, according to Nancy Cunningham, who has broken her long silence about the man to whom she was married for 32 years but now refers to as Mr. Cunningham.
Her extensive comments come as her legal fight with the U.S. Attorney's Office over a share of the proceeds from the sale of the family's Rancho Santa Fe house appears headed to a conclusion that would permit her to keep some of the money.

Nancy Cunningham said she has stopped taking many of her husband's calls from prison, but revealed that he now claims he's innocent, that he's been railroaded by the government, that he shouldn't be in prison. He says he signed the plea agreement under duress.
