WASHINGTON, Aug. 21 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Democratic National Committee today released the following document "Dean Says Bush Still Has No Plan for Iraq":

Today, President Bush again failed to recognize the changing reality on the ground in Iraq, reiterating instead his ongoing commitment to a failed strategy in the region. The president distorted the Democratic position on the war and national security, using the politics of fear to distract from his failed policies and his party's floundering electoral prospects this November. Democrats believe we need a new direction in Iraq that is both tough and smart. Democrats do not believe we should be occupying a nation sliding into civil war and instead support the phased re-deployment of troops so we can better fight the real global war on terror in places like Afghanistan, where we're seeing a resurgence of the Taliban, and to close the gaps in our security here at home.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today issued the following statement responding to the President's continued failure to provide a plan for success in Iraq:

"President Bush clearly has no plan for Iraq. His rhetoric of fear and his refusal to acknowledge the facts on the ground in Iraq are continuing to make America less safe," said Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean. "The American people understand that the United States should not be occupying a country in the midst of civil war and want real answers about our plan for success in Iraq.

"The president distorted the Democratic position on the war..."

"Those who doubted whether Iraq or the world would be better off without Saddam Hussein, and those who believe today that we are not safer with his capture, don't have the judgment to be President, or the credibility to be elected President.

No one can doubt or should doubt that we are safer -- and Iraq is better -- because Saddam Hussein is now behind bars."

Speech at Drake University in Iowa

"I think it was the right decision to disarm Saddam Hussein. And when the president made the decision, I supported him, and I support the fact that we did disarm him."

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al Qaeda members...

It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."

I really hate this "phased re-deployment" euphemism (i.e. withdrawal/retreat) that the Rats keep throwing out to the MSM, thinking that they are fooling someone besides themselves.

If we redeploy my vote is to bring them back to Fort Bragg.
Or Quantico.

It wont take any longer to get them back into action from there than it will from Okinawa.

It's time to raise the "Dems outflank Republicans on the right" flag again. It would be consistent with her previous straddles for Hillary to come out hard against Iran and North Korea at some point, stating that Bush has been too soft on what he himself called the Axis of Evil, because he's stuck in the Iraqi "quagmire" of his own making.

Dean has to stay on this until the end. As long as we stay, he cries get out. When we get out, he says, "We should have gotten out long ago." Plus, he knows we won't be out until after the election, and his base demands that he demands defeat.

Like some blogger wrote the other day, "If I can't question their patriotism when they want us to lose a war, when can I question it?"

Fortunately, his base is a minority of a minority. So, it's all good, Sub, cheers on posting it, though.
