Karr: I have fun, I have rights, I have the media

Inside the mind of John Mark Karr: Don't worry, I won't take you all the way inside my mind - I have to save something for my Barbara Walters interview!
But I will tell you three things. I am the logical culmination - or at least predictable result - of three cultural trends visible during my 41 years on this Earth: First, baby-boomer hedonism. Second, rights-based legal proceduralism. And third, the media's enabling of what I regard as "authentic" behavior.

" But where were they when the novel "Lolita" was published, back in 1955? That book, about an older man's affair with a12 1/2-year-old girl - which provided erotic inspiration to millions of pedophiles - is regarded as one of the great works of 20th century literature. And needless to say, I agree!"
Spoke like a true Liberal. Soros will probably pay his legal fees.

He's 41 years old and he's a "boomer"?

Everyone needs to take responsibility for their own actions. For instance, I would love to take responsibility for throwing the switch on this P.O.S.

"Karr: I have fun, I have rights, I have the media" and the only thing I wish I didn't have is my pee-pee, he continued.

Where in the article does it say that these are John Mark Karr's words? Is Pinkerton just being cute in theorizing that this is what goes on in Karr's mind, or is he actually quoting from something Karr said or wrote?
The article does not let us know which is the case, so I don't assume that these are Karr's words without a citation of the source.

The author is trying to make it look as if he is quoting Karr without actually stating that he is.
So I am certain that he is not.

Pinkerton should shorten his tether the next time he dives into this guy's mind.

The sad thing is he is insane, just like the rest of the child molesters..So if he is guilty of what he says then he will get off with a pat on the wrist and a few pills and the judge telling him not to do anything like that again..If it is a liberal judge..
My gut feeling tell me the loon did not do this to that little girl..He is in it for the fame and money..After all he needs to pay for his make over to become a woman..I hope they fry the bastard if he is guilty and then next time if there is any next time he can come back as a woman..I don't believe there will be a next time for any of us.. thought..

Where in the article does it say that these are John Mark Karr's words? They may not be his words but the truth is he certainly "has the Media"
Anyone watch Fox News on Sunday?
They spent EIGHT hours commenting on what he was eating, drinking and saying while he was on board a plane returning to the US.
Who cares? Why is this news? He's captive on the plane and not going anywhere, he's not charged with anything and is free to eat or drink whatever he choses.
The guy didn't belch or fart without it being a News Alert!

He's theorizing. No one can
know what goes on inside of someone else's mind (101 Philosophy guru type of thing).
Bubba confused the issue with his claim 'to feel your pain' BS.

This is where we need to skosh up our system a little bit. Minorities have hate crimes. The silent majority needs a new class of crime called crimes against humanity aka the evil incarnate crime. People thusly convicted get whacked without the benefit of a needle. They get the rope.

My beef is not with Pinkerton making up something as long as he qualifies it as being his thoughts about what Karr might be thinking.
The problem I have with it from a journalistic point of view is that the headline irresponsibly suggests that these are Karr's words:
Karr: I have fun, I have rights, I have the media
The article, then, does nothing to clear up that suggestion, even saying that the words are from Karr's mind -- leaving me and other readers to wonder if this is from one of those emails he sent, etc. It seems from the comments of the original poster in this thread that perhaps Pinkerton fooled him/her:
Spoke like a true Liberal. Soros will probably pay his legal fees.
I know it's a column, and I certainly don't support Karr, but I get upset with sloppy journalism whenever I see it.

"Satire is a technique of writing or art which exposes the follies of the subject to ridicule, often as an intended means of provoking change. The humor of satire tends to be subtle, using irony or deadpan humor liberally."
Famous satirists: Ovid, Jonathan Swift, Voltaire, Benjamin Franklin, Henry Fielding, Alexander Pope, Huxley, Mencken, Nast, Will Rogers, Oscar Wilde.....
A rich variety of writing techniques/tools throughout history employed by writers, philosophers and thinkers have added variety, spice, humor (and often social change) to the human experience.
Lighten up.....I thought Pinkerton's article (even "expose") was deft and right on.

I agree, quite deft. And
Lolita is one of the great classics of literature. But its subject matter does not provide an excuse for Karr's alleged behavior, any more than Dostoyevsky's
Crime and Punishment could provide an excuse for someone to murder an old woman and steal her money.
That's the implicit point of the allusion to Lolita in the article, and it is apparently lost on not a few.
