"His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount."And what is unacceptable conduct in Hollywood these days??
Cruise is a GREAT actor in the right film: The Last Samurai.

Ken Watanabe was the great actor in that film. Tom Cruise was just along for the ride. He is sometimes good (I liked him in Collateral, for example) but The Last Samurai was all Ken Watanabe.

Tom Cruise has never been and never will be a "great" actor.
And now that he's getting too old for the role (yes, it's really just one) he plays, Paramount is making the smart move. He's only going to get nuttier.
It's like a football coach - It's better to cut an aging star a season early than a season late.

Cruise is a GREAT actor in the right film: The Last Samurai. That did look like a good movie, but the fact the TC was in it was enough of a turn off for me. I haven't seen the movie.
