Best wishes to your friend Warren for a very speedy recovery and his return to two wheels as soon as possible. Life is fantastic on either a nimble roadbike or navigating a challenging trail on a full-suspension mountainbike. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

If it gives you any hope, I can tell you a little about someone who had a similar accident a few years ago, who is now almost fully recovered.

That person is Bob Aaronson, a former radio talk show host for WOR-New York.

Bob surprised me by being pretty conservative. I'd never listened to WOR much, since that station is mostly boring and relatively apolitical, except for the old curmudgeon Bob Grant (now retired).

But I happened to tune in late one night and found Aaronson, and was delighted with his show.

Then, he had the bike accident. It happened near where I live, so it was in our local papers. Reportedly there were no known witnesses, so no one knew if he'd been forced off the road by a vehicle, or just had his wheel lock up and went head-over-handlebars like your friend.

He was in a coma for a very long time. But now, though he still has seizures, and has retired from radio, I've heard he lives a pretty good life.
