MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee has been ranked by Forbes.com as "America's Drunkest City" on a list of 35 major metropolitan areas ranked for their drinking habits.

Forbes said Tuesday it used numbers from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to rank cities in five areas: state laws, number of drinkers, number of heavy drinkers, number of binge drinkers and alcoholism.

Minneapolis-St. Paul was ranked second overall; followed by Columbus, Ohio; Boston; Austin, Texas; Chicago; Cleveland; Pittsburgh and then Philadelphia and Providence, R.I., in a tie for ninth.

Preach on!! I have lived here all my life, with a brief 7 year stint in Osh-Vegas for school. It has all of the good stuff that the big cities have while the local taverns hold it together.

I notice that Rochester, NY is not listed on the top 10. I apologize and vow to redouble my efforts next year.

I just moved from Austin to Houston so Austin will probably be out of the survey next year.

Been there, like Florida where one can go outside 12 months a year and besides that we get the fun of surviving hurricanes and tourists from GOD knows where.

Live on Humboldt and Brady. The bohemian(sp) east side. I like being the drunkest city, let me tell you. It shows that we Milwaukeans know how to have a booze related good time, because as the residents know, there is not much else to do.

I used to hang out alot on the East Side in high school. I had a friend who had an apartment on Farwell and we would all hang out there.

I take it you've been to the "Up and Under Pub". They have good local jazz/blues bands play in there. Also, what's the name of that pizza joint down there...it begins with a "Z", but I can't remember the name of it.

I live near Mayfair, so were practically neighbors.

Close, but still about 15 minutes away. The name of the Pizza place is called Zafero's, and it is across the stree from the best bar in Milwuakee, Halladays.

Awww you're sweet. Hey, I got work in Tallahassee so I'm moving to Georgia. It's a short commute and Tallahassee is too overpriced for my budget.

Miss you too!

I'm not sure how they did it given that the National Avenue Liquor Bar (a.k.a. "Superbar") finally closed last year. Perhaps The Avalanche (a.k.a. "The 'lanche") is working overtime.

It is interesting that the list includes most of the metro areas north of the Mason Dixon line and east of the Mississppi. Detroit is a bit farther down on the list, but the city that is way down, at number 33, is New York. I wonder why that is?
