Kentucky Governor Signs Agreement Citing Wrongdoing in a Hiring Scandal

Gov. Ernie Fletcher of Kentucky, who was indicted in May in connection with a hiring scandal, signed an agreement yesterday admitting wrongdoing by his administration and promising to reconstitute the state’s Personnel Board.

“The governor acknowledges that the evidence strongly indicates wrongdoing by his administration with regard to personnel actions within the merit system,” the seven-page accord said, adding that he takes responsibility and that he “hereby states that these actions were inappropriate.”

Here's an alternative take (admittedly, I don't know the facts, but I don't trust the media to tell me):

Republican guv. who wanted to change things gets to keep his job, but only by accepting the Rats' leash and giving up on any real change.

Politics ain't beanbag if you want to get something done. It looks to me like Fletcher had to promise to stop acting like he's governor.

“This will help ensure that it is no longer who you know, but what you know that determines hiring,” Mr. Stumbo said. “And that will help us achieve a better and more professional work force.” translation: how dare you try to hire a republican to work in our state government... never mind that andrew jackson, one of our own, invented the spoils system. y'all remember - if you don't check democrat on your voter registration, their ain't gonna be no job for you come next term.
