They may try to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids
Unmitigated claptrap. You will not be charged.
"You are close, but another side is that your organs will be sold at a huge profit by those who convinced you to donate to a worthy cause. I once was a big proponent of this practice till I saw that some of the organ handlers were the same as those selling baby parts."
Selling organs is a violation of federal law.
The paranoia I am reading here, with the deadly consequences for those awaiting transplants, is just sickening.

"I like the way you think."
"The danger in our state is that YOU or your estate will be CHARGED to remove your organs if the donee has not the funds or refuses to pay for the organ transplant. Which vindicates the proverb "no good deed goes unpunished"."
"Just to be argumentative, these teams fail in the long run with every person on this earth. We all die. How much money would be paid to someone who allowed a "hopeless" case to die, if a person with $10,000 or $50,000 was to offer it. OOPSY, we just lost another one. Send it downstairs."
Impossible. Your medical team cannot choose who gets the organ, it's a regional ranking system based on a complex formula which takes many different medical factors into account. Even if you offered me as a doctor 10,000 to get you an organ, I can't get you to the top of the transplant list, and I would have to be awfully lucky to stumble across an organ compatible with you anyway. The organ's not sent "downstairs", it's sent to whoever's at the top of the transplant list in the region and can often be flown hundreds of miles away.
"Dammit Hermes, jump already! Quit hogging that healthy liver!" :D
It's your choice, but the "they'll let me die so they can harvest my organs!" mindset strikes me as really paranoid (then again, some people say it's paranoid to fear the UN's gun control movement). I checked the box "yes" years ago. If I die I'm basically done with my organs. If someone else can use any of them, have at it, I figure.
If you are brain dead you ARE dead. Brain dead means your brain doesn't even tell your body to breathe any more (one of the many tests done to diagnose brain death is called the apnea test). Some of the other tests for brain death show NO brain activity and NO blood flow to the brain. Brain death is death - the rest of your body just didn't get the message yet.
"Also, anesthetics cannot be used to ease any pain."
Buffalo Bagels. My wife has been woken up at 2 am while on call to provide anesthesia for organ procurements. Although most do find it a moot point, they do it anyway.
hey it may be just that.I hope it is. But it was a rumor that caught on here. And when going to get a drivers license the official response from the revenue office "we have no comment on that". That doesn't do much to dispel rumors.
"I disagree......organs from donors are regularly rejected for just the fact the person was a smoker.....up to and including corneas."
But that is a medical decision-it has nothing to do with discrimination, or judging a smoker as being "lower" than anybody else.
As we all know, donated organs are sent to Area 51 in black helicopters where they are used to prolong the lives of aliens who crashed in Roswell.
So, if Grok from the planet Notar needs my liver, it's no skin off my teeth. Hey, they can have my teeth skins as well.
For obvious reasons, there is no way to confidently estimate the probability here. We simply cannot quantify the extent of abuse.
However, we do have more refined information on the current state of medical ethics...
You might trust such people. I do not.
I was being facetious about that. And the tonsils and appendicts. I left out the /sarc.
Some people have a different definition of 'dead'. Just checking 'yes' doesn't explain your wishes.

It's best if they don't ever manage brain transplants. Someone in the future could end up unbearably stupid.
"I heard somewhere that if you're over 45-50 your organs are pretty much "shop worn" and not healthy enough for harvesting. "
There is no age limit per se, they evaluate the health of the organ before they transplant. Sometimes a less than desirable organ is transplanted anyway, if a recipient is facing imminent death without one.

So, you continue to post this "rumor" as if it were true. You know, it's easy to check such things. Donors' families don't pay for removal of organs. The recipient pays, or his insurance company, or whoever's paying for the transplant.
It's an ugly rumor, and easy enough to check. Yet you posted it as if it were true, even referencing "your" state's policies.
I don't care if you're a donor or not. I do not, however, understand why you'd bother to tell lies about why. It just doesn't make any sense.
Great job Obi-Wan!
I knew this thread was crap, but I didn't have the info handy.
...Then I'm signing up. Thanks.
