The danger in our state is that YOU or your estate will be CHARGED to remove your organs if the donee has not the funds or refuses to pay for the organ transplant. Which vindicates the proverb "no good deed goes unpunished".
You are close, but another side is that your organs will be sold at a huge profit by those who convinced you to donate to a worthy cause. I once was a big proponent of this practice till I saw that some of the organ handlers were the same as those selling baby parts.
Unmitigated claptrap. You will not be charged.

Selling organs is a violation of federal law.
The paranoia I am reading here, with the deadly consequences for those awaiting transplants, is just sickening.

That is one of my reasons for not being a donor.
Why should the surgeons profit from it and the family get nothing but additional expenses and loss?
Surgeons should donate their income from it to the families as just as thoughtful a gift as the organ.
I have worked in medicine for 20 years, and I have never, ever heard of such a thing. Ever. Do you have any proof of this statement? Any links to state rules or regulations?
I am 100% behind organ donation. I do believe that it is completely a personal choice. But there is enough Fear, Uncertainty and Disinformation without statements like that.
