Things are looking up for Mitt Romney. Not only has the outgoing Massachusetts governor been getting reasonably favorable press from usually hostile places but, courtesy of George Allen's Macaca moment, his position in the 2008 Republican presidential field suddenly looks more secure -- the most viable candidate to the right of front-runners John McCain and Rudy Giuliani.

Romney appears to sense the opportunity . . . (READ ON at the link above)

I don't believe an evangelical would allow theological disagreements to get in the way of backing a pro-family candidate on account of that candidate being a Mormon.

Believe it.  For fundamentalists, that goes double.

I want to know where is this "double post" that he accused me of being a Mormon.

English?

Anyway, since you support gays in the Boy Scouts and the AWB, Romney's probably your kind of liberal. Just stop lying about his record -- it just reinforces the image of a slimy pandering John Kerry clone trying to run from his record.

"Again, if Romney becomes president and is the one who ends up being responsible for appointing a judge or two that could help overturn R v W (sending it back to the states) then we can look back smilingly at our discussion."

Romney's record on judges is perhaps the most atrocious part of his political record.

He has nominated not one but TWO homosexual liberal Democrat gay marriage activists as judges in Massachusetts. Most of his judicial nominations have been Democrats. There are no reported instances of Mitt fighting for more conservative judges in Massachusetts. By all accounts the liberal Democrats who must approve his picks have had no complaints with his selections. (That's a good indication he's not doing his job right!!!)

I wouldn't put anything past a flip-flopper like Romney, but going from nominating pro-gay marriage activist Democrats, who are openly homosexual themselves, to nominating conservative justices for the Supreme Court -- well, really, it does strain credulity.

Your "fundamentalists" would be whom? The list is short, for those who prefer a civil war, by proxy. So, please tell us all, just who (in the right wing) would prefer a Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton- over a Gov. Mitt Romney for the next President of the United States of America?

Dear JohnnyZ,

Thanks for that important contribution.

I don't know just how Mr. Romney overcomes that very serious defect. A simple promise to flip-flop on judicial appointments upon becoming president doesn't do it for me.

Your "fundamentalists" would be whom?

Why, it would be those who actually believe that what the Bible says is true.

The list is short, for those who prefer a civil war, by proxy.

Sorry, I have no idea to resopond to that comment, since I have no idea what your are talking about.

So, please tell us all, just who (in the right wing) would prefer a Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton- over a Gov. Mitt Romney for the next President of the United States of America?

Sorry, choosing the lesser of two evils is not my bag.

"Will you not agree with me that even worse is the annual slaughter of over 1.2 million innocent human children? Year in and year out for over 30 years?"

No.

Quality matters just as much as quantity. Muslims societies outlaw abortion with sharia law, but that is no way to live.

Dear JHBowden,

"Quality matters just as much as quantity."

What the heck does THAT mean?? That it's not so bad to kill a million folks a year as long as they don't meet your quality standards?

Yikes! I thought this was a CONSERVATIVE site!

Yes or no.

I don't remember Mitt Romney EVER being ahead of Teddy Kennedy at any time in his bid for Senator. This is WAY too liberal a state to dump Kennedy. The only way they won't vote for him is after he's dead and isn't running anymore. And some will likely still write him in for old time's sake!

Mitt got about 37% of the vote in that race, if I remember correctly; about the same amount that President Bush got. He won the Governor's race because, while the liberal MA residents may like the Dems' social policies, they don't trust them not to raise their taxes.

Oh yeah. "Personally pro-life." Like other prominent pro-aborts, such as Cuomo, Kerry, Clinton. Basically it means that they won't have an abortion themselves. Empty rhetoric.

Not when his record in office backs up his stance, unlike the records of the Dems you've mentioned.

The Amirault situation is an anomaly, and perhaps is cause for suspicion.

It's possible he was getting some citizen feedback on that one. There were people who were STILL completely convinced of Gerald Amirault's guilt who wanted to put him UNDER the jail, not let him out.

The Amiraults are victims of the Insurance Companys in our society.

Everybody settled, the Insurance Companys paid off the bogus claims.

A vindication of the Amiraults might have lead to court troubles that were not in the best interest of the 99 out out of a 100 families.

The Courts, the lawyers, the families of the little children, and the politicaly savvy scumbag (possibly Mitt, but likely his handlers) operatives all converged in a place where the Amiraults got the short end.

It was a disgrace all around, and the real victims......

They got screwed, the alleged victims made a bundle, and the lawyers....still practice Law. Practice only because, they'll never get it Right.

It is a disgrace what happened to that family.

I don't get the problem folks have with Mormons. Okay, they don't drink coffee or drink but that's their deal. As long as they don't interfere with my own caffeine addiction, I'm fine with that. However, keep me from my coffee and I will go BERSERK.

The fact that so many mormons are pushing Mitt Romney is a bit unnerving and well, just weird.

Why? Every group has some sort of pride in one of their own possibly getting into the White House. I'm starting to lean towards Romney himself just as long as promises not to stand between me and my coffee. Look, I don't expect Romney to ever make a good bar buddy but maybe that isn't on the top of my priorities for a president. So far, I think he can be a strong candidate.

Well I certainly do remember it

It forced Kennedy to actually campaign a bit

In fact it was a double digit lead

That is why Milt got so cocky and made that stupid statement

The truth is, no candidate in the governor's race in either party would deny women abortion rights."

And Romney is exactly right on that. Doesn't matter WHAT his personal belief or opinion is on it, there's no way ANY politician is going to be able to deny any woman over 18 an abortion.

He has said squishy things about 'choice' over the years here in MA, but he was saying what he thought he needed to say to get elected. I wish he had just stayed a more conservative course in the Senate race. He was going to lose anyway, cause NO ONE is going to beat Teddy Kennedy here; it ain't gonna happen, unless The Swimmer kills another young girl, and it might not even happen then! If Romney had stayed the pro-life course, he might have given some strength to the conservatives in the state.
