KARACHI - Hezbollah has emerged as the new champion of the jihadist world, eclipsing even al-Qaeda as it battled the might of the US-backed-and-supplied Israel Defense Forces. Shi'ite Hezbollah's newfound international popularity is likely in turn to encourage closer ties between it and Salafi-dominated al-Qaeda, which had fallen in Hezbollah's esteem for its targeting of Shi'ites in Iraq. An Iranian intelligence official explained to Asia Times Online, "There have been some contacts between Hezbollah and al-Qaeda in the past, but those contacts were at the individual level.

A Salifists-Shia alliance. This I guess would finally dispell all myths that this is a religious war. Interesting.

There's not enough makeup in the word that could help those ugly bastards.

It had better be one, or I'll never earn anything from my collection of Jihad Joe action figures.

(Al Qaeda was working in Iraq. They were just undocumented.)

Yes, Shiite and Sunni terrorists have been working together for some time. Sunnis have been trained by Iran.

Many people who value their other interests (economic, for one) have been reiterating their hope that Al Qaeda (which group works with Sunni cells) can't get along with Shiites (Iran-based). Cooperation between the two has been ongoing for some time, even though there are disagreements on a few Islamic religious beliefs between them.

Islam's enemy is anything unislamic. They hate. It's a requirement from the koran.

"My brother before my cousin. My cousin before my neighbor. My neighbor before a stranger." - Arab proverb
Just because they're willing to cooperate doesn't mean they don't hate each other. It just means that they both understand that they need to ally against the infidels first, and focus on their own disagreements after the infidels have been destroyed.

Because the salifists and the shias have very divergent views on Islam. Salifists do not consider Shias to be a part of the Islamic community. In Fact, some of them consider Shias worse than Christian and Jews.
It only proves that Al Qaeda is little more than a nihilistic movement that uses religion to recruit people and hide behind them.
To me, I really cannot understand this alliance after all that has happened over the centuries between the Sunnis and Shias. Would a global caliphate ruled by Sheik Bin Laden permit the practice by shias?? I doubt it.

I understand the "enemy of enemy" concept. I understand that Shia Iran works with a Secular Baathists Socialist Sunni Syria (try saying that three times in a row. But the Salifists movement was supposed to rid the Islamic faith of the "impurities".
Were are not just talking about Cafeteria Sunnis, we are talking about Salifists.
This would be like Bob Jones University forming an alliance with the Mormons or Dominicans (or Jesuits).

No. I say we kill them. I just find this interesting because the left has always wanted to treat the Islamic world as victims with endless grievances.
It also disproves any myths that an OBL-Saddam alliance could not have taken place.
