Katherine Harris encourages people of all faiths to engage in government
Katherine Harris Campaign Press Release ^ | August 26, 2006 | Harris for Senate campaign

STATEMENT OF CLARIFICATION

TAMPA--In a recent article published in the Florida Baptist Witness, Congresswoman Katherine Harris was asked to comment on the interplay of faith and politics in the public square. In the interview, Harris was speaking to a Christian audience, addressing a common misperception that people of faith should not be actively involved in government. Addressing this Christian publication, Harris provided a statement that explains her deep grounding in Judeo-Christian values.

Bryan Rudnick, Harris for Senate Campaign Manager stated, "I joined this campaign because Congresswoman Harris is a passionate supporter of Israel, the Jewish people and always has the best interests of all Floridians at heart. As the grandson of Holocaust survivors, I know that she encourages people of all faiths to engage in government so that our country can continue to thrive on the principles set forth by our Founding Fathers, without malice towards anyone."

In Congress, Katherine Harris has consistently supported pro-Israel legislation. Representative Harris co-sponsored numerous resolutions including: H. Con. Res. 248, to honor the life and work of Simon Wiesenthal and to reaffirm Congress' commitment to the fight against anti-Semitism and all forms of intolerance; H.Con.Res. 392, to recognize the 58th anniversary of the independence of the State of Israel; H.Con.Res. 101, to push for the European Union to add Hezbollah to its list of terrorist organizations; and H.Res. 575, to stress that Hamas and other terrorist organizations should not take part in elections held by the Palestinian Authority.

As a Florida State Senator, Katherine Harris co-sponsored S. 3062, the Holocaust and Yom Hashoah Victims Resolution, encouraging observation of the day to remember the horrific tragedy of the Holocaust. While serving as Secretary of State, Congresswoman Harris advocated for funding for the Florida - Israel Linkage Institute to promote business/ cultural/educational/technological exchanges, and she traveled to Israel for personal and professional purposes. As Harris frequently reminds voters in her campaign speeches for the U.S. Senate, she is committed to standing by Israel.

...we’re going to have a nation of secular laws. That’s not what our founding fathers intended and that’s certainly isn’t what God intended."

In all honesty, I would rather have a liberal senator than one who believes that A) she knows the will of God, and B) that American law is not secular.

yeah....

If I was still working for CENTCOM, I'd have a vote and I wouldn't be either.

It's too late to move down and vote against her now :)

Now I have to hope that Blackwell can win in Ohio so that we can get some fiscal and tax sanity in Ohio.

Maybe you should re-think that statement a little.

Read what he said again:

"As the grandson of Holocaust survivors, I know that she encourages people of all faiths to engage in government so that our country can continue to thrive on the principles set forth by our Founding Fathers, without malice towards anyone."

How does being the grandson of Holocaust survivors give him special insight into her personality? Plus, it just appears to be stuck on there as a clause.

But, let me tell you -- as the great-great-great grandson of Irish immigrants who escaped the potato famine, I cannot stress enough the importance of a well-balanced diet!

Look, I'm glad the guy's parents came through the Holocaust and landed in the U.S. -- but tagging their personal history on to a press release as a clause is a bit unseemly. It's one of those things you get to go to hell for...

So now it's OK for Christians AND Jews to participate in government. Five or six more press releases and she'll actually have covered the major world religions.
