You John already know all of the above of course. But now it is in a nice little list. :) Am I a "liberal?"

1. no.

2. newt drove the fundamental tax reform debate --- allowing the proponents of the flat tax (led by armey) and the proponents of the national consumption tax (led by tauzin) have at it.... but, as not major tax reform bill was going to pass with Clinton in the White House, it was not elevated to a priority on the level of balancing the budget (which was achieved with great success). he was also instrumental in the creation of the congressional kemp commission on tax reform.... which offered up several options and was a part of the dole campaign in 1996.

to answer your question about support for rudy and romney, i think that romney has an aggressive effort to raise his profile among the blog and blog-like communities... it is likely he is over-represented as the result of a deliberate effort on the part of some of his supporters... that said, he has been travelling a lot and speaking to a lot of groups and, from what i hear, his stump speech is pretty rock solid...

as for rud, he has a tough law-and-order reputation (which always plays well with conservatives) he pushed hard on the civil society issues (which are popular with social conservatives) and he projects the image of a strong and confident executive, which a lot of conservatives think the country needs.... as to his positions on social issues like abortion and gay rights, i think that for a lot of conservatives for whom those are not the most important issues, the war on terror has pushed them down on the list below other thinks like national security -- and, i think it is fair to say, on both those issues we are, for the moment, winning more than we are losing. the battle is far from over, of course, but the trend lines are generally positive.

I don't pigeon hole my friends. I take them as they are, the good, the bad and the downright ugly!
