A small plane carrying seven people crashed on Monday in rugged southeastern Kentucky, about 100 miles from Sunday's airliner crash in Lexington, aviation authorities said.
It was unclear if there were any survivors from the crash of the twin-engine Cessna 401, which took off from Kickapoo Airport in Wichita Falls, Texas, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said.
The spokesman did not know the plane's destination because the pilot did not file a flight plan.
Witnesses near Jackson, Kentucky, told authorities they had heard a plane and then heard and felt an explosion, said Buddy Rogers of the state emergency management agency.
"It's a very remote area with very steep terrain," Rogers said.
The crash follows Sunday's accident in which Comair Flight 5191 went off a short runway at Lexington's Blue Grass Airport and exploded in flames, killing 49 of the 50 aboard.

A small plane carrying seven people crashed in a wooded, mountainous area of southeastern Kentucky on Monday, and authorities said no survivors had been found.
The crash site is so remote rescue workers on all-terrain vehicles needed help from a helicopter to find it, said Buddy Rogers, a spokesman for the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management.
"At this time, no survivors have been located," said Kentucky State Police Trooper Jody Sims. He did not have further details on the crash site or any bodies found.
Seven people onboard a twin-engine Cessna 401 is close to that aircraft's weight limit; depending upon the amount of fuel.

The 'no flight plan' part of this one seems suspicious. The two in context are just very odd and tragic at this point.

Yesterday's plane crash in Kentucky stunned the nation and today another plane crash in that very same state with Wichita Falls connections. NewsChannel 6's Blake Burman has been following the story. We can report at this time that a small plane leaving from Kickapoo this morning has crashed in the blue grass state.
We have few confirmed details at this point, but here is what we know. A family of seven believed to be from the Falls pulled out of their hangar Monday morning at 8:50. Who was inside that plane and what time they exactly left cannot be confirmed at this time. What we do know it was this type of plane, a 401 twin engine Cessna, which we've learned was purchased about 3-4 months ago by the pilot. We can also report at this time that the plane crashed in Jackson, Kentucky, approximately 75 miles south and east of Lexington. Around 2:00, the plane reportedly flew into a mountain.

Small aircraft leaving Wichita Falls crashes in Ky.; 7 people on board
A plane originating from Wichita Falls and carrying seven people reportedly crashed Monday afternoon in eastern Kentucky, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
Breathitt County officials as well as the Kentucky State Polce were on the scene of a Cessena plane crash that occured about 2:45 p.m. in a mountainous area. The Federal Aviation Administration, the newspaper's Web site reported, confirmed a crash involving a plane that had departed near Wichita Falls. The plane, carrying seven people, crashed near Jackson, Ky., the paper reported.

The manager at Julian Carroll airport in Jackson said the airport doesn’t have a control tower, so there was no way to contact the pilot. In neighboring Perry County, an official at Wendell Ford Airport in Hazard said he spoke briefly with the pilot before the crash.
The National Weather Service Jackson office said thunderstorms and showers have moved through the area and it has rained just under half an inch of rain since 1 p.m. At 2:53 p.m., visibility in Jackson was about 4 miles and with a light fog in the area.
This is like calling your wife and letting her know when you will get home. However, if you called your wife every single day, when nothing unusual was happening, she would soon get tired of your phone calls.
