The topic of Milton is a winner. Can hardly pick a better one since he is still the best.
All right, you got me. I'll admit I've never read Fish on Milton. Could be I owe the feller an apology...
PING!!!!!!!!!!
Kayne is pronounced "Cane", at least by the folks on MTV.
I saw no sarcasm tag.
The same Stanley Fish that claims mathematics is a racial construct and that 2+2=3 is a legitimate answer for nonwhites?
You don't believe in the dragon?
Fish is a master at playing Devil's Advocate (to be expected from someone who's read Paradise Lost as much as he has?). He says a lot of things for the thrill of outraging people who are so inclined. He published an essay called 'There's no such thing as Free speech and its a good thing too' which raised hackles as well. In any case his scholarly work is first rate.
Dear David,
I wonder what would happen if a Christian professor were to teach creation theory in a biology class? I guess you believe that this professor shouldn't be persecuted either, huh?
Mark
He was more worried about the time it took the military to deploy coast to coast and he had the model of the German Autobahnen in mind. The bridges were made just high enough that tank transporters could get under them.
The road beds were made just strong enough to hold the weight of tanks. There were a lot more concerns about what would happen if the Ruskies dropped a -bombs on out cities
Forgive me if I don't agree. Everything I have read by him shows him to be another liberal fool. And I don't plan to read any of his scholarly works. Many of the worst offenders in our education system are brilliant but misguided or dishonest minds.
His politics are neither here nor there. I don't agree with F.R. Leavis' politics either that doesn't reduce the value of his scholarship. Fish revolutioned Milton studies.
