Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist acknowledged Tuesday that he may not have met all the requirements needed to keep his medical license active even though he gave paperwork to Tennessee officials indicating that he had. ADVERTISEMENT
The state of Tennessee requires its licensed physicians to complete 40 hours of continuing medical education every two years. Frist, a heart-lung surgeon who is considering a 2008 presidential run, submitted a license renewal with the Tennessee Health Department stating he has fulfilled that requirement.
Responding Tuesday to repeated requests from The Associated Press, a Frist spokesman said the Republican senator may not have done his continuing education after all, and had contacted the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners to see if corrective steps were necessary.

I think he has no need to keep his license avtive. HCA was just bought out. He'll have a ton more money than he could ever spend.
The libs are going to have a heyday with this. But Frist was apparently in the wrong on this one.
Senator Frist owns no shares of HCA. He divested his interest last year....remember the investigation for potential insider trading?
Man, he has a big time criminal nature doesn't he?
Wonder if he has overdue library books. And if he takes those tags off pillows, the ones you aren't supposed to take off.
This is so penny ante that I am surprised again by the pettiness of the disloyal opposition.
In most cases, I think that would be all there was to it. The problem here is that he signed the declaration that he had sufficient CME. I have no idea what happens in that case, but it could be more serious than just getting behind on credits.
He signed it. So he says he was mistaken. Nobody gets fried over that.
Regardless of this issue, This guy is another Rhino that I would never vote for as president. Another traitor to this country in the form of pandering to anything goes with illegals.
You may be right, but Tennesse's rules say "(e) Anyone submitting a signed renewal form, electronically or otherwise, which is found to be fraudulent or untrue may be subject to disciplinary action. " Of course, they don't specify the action.
But, according to the excerpt, he took steps to correct it, rather than trying to sweep it under the rug.
But as you and I both know, facts are irrelevent to "progressives" and the media, at least when it concerns Conservatives.
Yeap.
If it had been a dem, they would have not called, they would have been caught down the road, but then everyone would rush to their aid to excuse it as an oversight.
Rumor has it that Frist was in the shower once and didn't follow the instructions on the shampoo bottle, where it said "repeat."
Is he? What do you base this on? All I know about him is that he is a doctor. I have no idea how well regarded his practice and his skills were.
Continuing education in my field is verified by signing a declaration. If the declaration is false, it can be punished as perjury.
That's the case in my state, too. If you make a false declaration, it's perjury. If you admit you're behind on continuing education, they give you time to make it up and ask for proof that you have, then that's the end of it. But perjury is obviously far more serious.
With all the options for CME now, he could have gone online, read some journals and taken the tests, and been back up to date before he even mailed the application in.
