I distinctly remembered being told in school by teachers who were Carter supporters that it is time for the American Standard of living to come down. We were told at the time that we were not going to have it as good as our parents had.

I remembered when Reagan came into office and basically said, bullsh*t to Carter's socialism. I remembered the day after the election when Reagan won. One school teacher in particular was very upset at Reagan's landslide victory.

Carter pines for that those days of malaise, double digit inflation, double digit interest rates, double digit unemployment, fuel lines, 55 mph speed limits, 59 degree thermostat settings, sweaters, "Billy Beer", and ABBA.
