SAN FRANCISCO – The driver in a bloody hit-and-run spree that killed one man and injured more than a dozen people was mentally unstable and had been undergoing stress from a recent arranged marriage, according to relatives.
Omeed A. Popal, 29, of Fremont, was taken into custody Tuesday following a 20-minute rampage that terrorized pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists throughout San Francisco. Authorities believe it began more than an hour earlier when his black Honda Pilot fatally struck a man in Fremont.

A woman who identified herself as Popal's cousin said he had been having recurring nightmares about someone coming to kill him and had been taking medication.
“He thought the devil was coming to him,” said Zargona Ramish, who went to the family's home Tuesday afternoon while Popal's relatives were speaking with police. “He is a very good person. He is not like that. What's wrong with him?”
Another cousin, Hamid Nekrawesh, said a recent arranged marriage in Afghanistan, where his family is from, may have contributed to Popal's problems.
“The kid grew up here. He wasn't used to the lifestyle in Afghanistan. I'm sure that put a lot of pressure on him,” Nekrawesh said.
The spree began around noon in Fremont, in the East Bay, where an unidentified man walking along the side of the road was hit by a black SUV. He was thrown into a field and pronounced dead at the scene, Sgt. Chris Mazzone of the Fremont police said.

No but somebody googled the name yesterday and got an Ahmed Aziz Popal who was arrested for trying to smuggle a wife and two kids into Canada. By Canadian authorities. Omeed=Ahmed?

Surprisingly, Drudge has a link up right now (I am terrible at posting those things) from KTVU in San Francisco that quotes the witnesses that claim Popal said he was a 'terrorist.' But, of course, its all just stress related...
The most powerful weapon of Jihadists in the USA since 911 has been these freelance Jihadists. Probably true that they are not connected to Al Queada in the sense of getting their orders from them, but if enough start these kinds of freelance attacks (DC sniper, LA El AL terminal etc) then it can put the US in a real bind.

Not a peep about his being Muslim. Did he say anything to the police? Like, "I did it all for Allah!" If so, we won't hear about it.

None of them will be harmed, because Americans don't do that type of thing. But immediately the media focuses on the illusory fantasies of Muslims. Not on the real injuries of Americans who actually were harmed - by Muslims.
So far I haven't seen the names or anything about the victims of this guy. But I guess the victims don't matter, because this guy, being a Muslim, must have had the appropriate motivation and we should really all be out apologizing to him and all Muslims for the fact that he ran Americans down in our own streets. Who cares about us?

Well, A witness said the driver referred to himself as a terrorist. The police said that it could have been many things, but not an act of terrorism. Of course not, it neve crossed our minds. (/sarc)
