SACRAMENTO, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- California's Democrat-controlled Assembly has passed a universal healthcare bill that is expected to figure in Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's re-election bid.
The bill would eliminate private medical insurance plans and establish a statewide health insurance system for all state residents, reports The San Francisco Chronicle. The state senate is expected to approve changes to plan and send it the Republican governor, who has expressed his opposition to a single-payer plan.
The Chronicle said the governor, however, has not offered an alternative for the state's 7 million people who are uninsured. His office has said the governor would propose solutions in his State of the State address in January if he is re-elected. Republicans and insurance groups oppose the new bill, saying it will create an inefficient government bureaucracy.

Economic fascism wins out in that state....I'd get out now if I lived there.

There are 49 other less socialistic states.

The Chronicle said the governor, however, has not offered an alternative for the state's 7 million people who are uninsured 99% of which are illegal immigrants.

Isn't it time for another BIG one to hit? When did it become the government's responsibility to cover a person's healthcare? They suck at everything else, why would you want them in charge of your life for heaven's sake? I forsee a mass exodus if it passes. Could you imagine the amount of $$ that it will cost in taxes? What a terrible idea. Socialism at it's worst.

So when the illegals bankrupt the hospitals, the state takes over? The elimination of private insurance is also a scary prospect if I read that right.

The company I work for has been considering a move out of the state already. This is exactly the kind of thing that could motivate shareholders and the BOD to actually force the move.

This is veto bait. Arnold will work to expand access to coverage for the uninsured next year (if he's re-elected), but this isn't the plan.

Have your CEO, or whomever, send Arnold a letter.

The state senate is expected to approve changes to plan and send it the Republican governor, who has expressed his opposition to a single-payer plan. Totally outrageous. It would be bad enough if it were limited to just citizens, but all residents will include the millions of illegals. I wonder if they will see a rise in homeless numbers.

It definitely happens. Check out Fidelity National Title, which relocated to Jacksonville, FL 2-3 years ago. They were very clear about the reasons (Kalifornia was too expensive). It is around 250 on the Fortune 500 with income of around 1 billion (not sales, net income)

I live in this state (unfortunately). The Governor just signed environmental and gay rights education legislation that will run parents and businesses out. As much as I love this state, it's time to go, while my property/equity value is still strong. I can not imagine what healthcare would be like if 1) taxpayers had to pay for everybody (including illegals) and 2) waiting in line to see the doctor like other state offices (Dept of Motor Veh's)

This is why I'll have to be getting out of Maryland soon. The Communists/Socialists/Stalinists are running things. "Well, it worked so wonderfully in the Soviet Union and Cuba that we have to try it..."

I weigh 350 pounds, have diabetes,a heart condition...and have no health insurance. What should I do?The Lawn Mower diet (cut seven lawns per week - one per day, with a push mower, for free, to get in an hour of exercise each day). And quit eating so much. You'll either die trying this or become healthy.

This is no joke... Mrs. steveo has resisted so far leaving Sacramento. It's her home town, really not that bad but not the same place we moved to 20+ years ago.
This socialized health-care is *big* on our radar.
So we are thinking to get outta Dodge while we are still fit to do so. Big question is where to go...

This just in: the California Assembly has awarded every resident of the state (whether legal or illegal) a Ph.D.
