Senator To Decline Marshall Foundation Award (George Allen)

RICHMOND, Va. Senator George Allen is declining an award from a minority scholarship fund after an outcry over his selection for the honor.

The Republican seeking re-election decided to forgo the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund's Community Leadership Award he was to receive next week after being told donors to the fund threatened to withhold contributions if he received it.

Allen said in a statement that he regrets that -- quote -- "there are those who would put their personal or political dislike for him ahead of the needs of deserving students."

Allen's decision came almost three weeks after he singled out a Virginia-born college student of Indian descent to a mostly white crowd at a campaign rally and twice applied the name "Macaca" to him.

Macaca is a genus of monkeys that includes macaques, and is also considered a racial slur in some parts of the world.

Allen apologized publicly and in a private phone call to volunteer for Democratic Senate candidate Jim Webb.

YEESH! Why don't they just leave him alone. They never stop!

Of course not. The jackals and hyenas of the left never stop, so long as they breathe.

They treat Republicans like dirt for months when they make mistakes but the Democrats get a free ride.

Because George Allen bared his neck to their long knives with a careless remark, and they will keep hacking until his candidacy is dead.

The media want to marginalize any possible Republican presidential nominees who are conservative.

Look for McCain, Guiliani, Gingrich and Romney to get all the press kudos. The best chance the liberals have to advance their agenda is to get a squishy RINO inserted in the Oval Office in 2008. That way, they'll split the Republican base, and Democrat control of Congress will be a much more realistic possibility.

Because he needs at least 4 more public apologies to equal, 5 to surpass, Lott's number of apologies for his comment about the late Senator Strom Thurmond.

By my count, Allen has only given 3 public apologies, whereas Lott gave 7.

lol

This will be Allen's Willie Horton.

I was planning to work hard for his '08 run, highly doubtful I will now. Allen is done as far as winning the GOP nom.

This is really pissing me off. They are treating this guy like dirt. I really feel bad for him. They have no shame. Allen needs to start telling the Democrats to "GO SHOVE IT". He apologized! END OF STORY!

I like Allen a lot, and he was possibly my favorite for '08, but he has shown a lack of spine in the macaca situation. He does not have 'IT' if this is his response to the media scrutiny. It's a shame, he seemed like a guy that can hold his own.

I think Allen screwed up his potential presidential run. But he is a good Senator. It's important he keeps his Senate Seat!

He is done only if the MSM can convince people like you that he is finished. This is making a mountain out of a molehill. I find it interesting that the MSM doesn't find McCain and his association with the Keating Five as an impediment to running for President. Allen will make a fine nominee.

Tolerance=Lack of Conviction.

Mr. Allen better get cranked up and start kicking back at these maggots.
