Not quite. The shadowing is a verifiable prediction of theory. Failure to find it would casts doubt on the theory.

Of course. A high school science project is not likely to overthrow a well established and well validated scientific theory. But if repeated attempts to verify the prediction of a theory prove unsuccessful, it undermines the theory. It's like Michelson-Morely's null result.
