Welcome to Free Republic. I don't know what I have to do with this thread but, as a onetime smoker of 5 packs a day, and tobacco free for more than 7 years now, I agree with your post. The article seems to play into the ever popular but false theory that we are unable to break bad habits by the exercise of will power alone.

Lower nicotine content, higher nicotine content, any nicotine content: all have one thing in common: they help maintain the nicotine habit. Cold turkey (one hour at a time, then one day, then one week, then one month, then one year, then forever) and gallons of water to flush your system and keep it clean will do more (at absolutely no expense and a terrific savings from $3-4/pack) than any low nicotine crutch (cigarettes, gum, patches or whatever) to break the habit. Why prolong the addiction and the agony? Quit cold.

"Smokers Rights neither promotes smoking nor denies the health risks of smoking. Instead, we defend the interests of adults who choose to smoke; we promote freedom of choice for employers and proprietors who wish to accommodate smokers on their premises; and we speak out against those who want to discriminate against smokers or ban smoking completely. Last but not least, we promote greater courtesy and tolerance between smokers and non-smokers. "
