Since I'm a direct-pay costumer, not having my health coverage subsidized by employer or gov't, anything to reduce cost or improve service is something I'm interested in.

Socialized medicine would INCREASE cost, and REDUCE service, not only create impossible waiting itmes, but would ration healthcare, there would be no incentive to have the latest technology and so on.
