Air time for political ads must be sold at the lowest rate the station charges. This means a drive time ad for Murtha costs the same as an ad at 3am. (Politicians always make laws that are advantageous for themselves.)
Ergo, I don't think the station will mind if they are able to sell ad time at a premium to someone else.

This is just great! For those of you Freepers out there who don't know of/about Jim Quinn - he is Rush Limbaugh on steroids (no drug pun intended). In fact, Jim Quinn and Jeff Christie (rock station stage name of Rush Limbaugh) were on Pittsburgh's AM Rock Station, KQV AM-1410 way back before FM-Stereo took hold.
Jim and the lovely 'Radio Rose' Sommma can be heard every morning on the XM satellite radio conservative talk channel, (I believe #165) - if you live outside the syndication area, they are worth the price of XM admission.
Jim has been at the forefront of radio guests regarding Bill Clinton's state trooper problem, TWA-800, Jana Davis' evidence regarding Oklahoma City, etc. A VERY reformed, 1960's liberal, he is a liberal's worst nightmare. He was one of them and he knows how they think. Incidentally, he has given the most coherent explanation I've ever heard to explain the Whitewater land development; and how precisely people were duped, and how the project worked. Instead of getting titles to land, Whitewater investors were sold limited partnership shares; and when they defaulted (which happened often, as it was marketed as a retirement haven - folks got sick and missed a payment); all prior payments versus the 'loan' extended to purchase the limited partnership share reverted to rent! - And the shares were re-sold out from under the original investors. Per Jim Quinn, some of the plots were re-sold as many as five (5) times...and that was just the LEGAL part of Whitewater...
In any event; Diana Irey, is an experienced politician - and she can and should beat Murtha. The key about this particular race is that the House races are so close that just one upset like this may be enough to keep the House in GOP hands by one vote (which is just about what it may turn out to be). Besides - as Rush Limbaugh has said, Diana Irey is a 'babe'. Like it or not; looks do play a part in political races in the TV age. This could be the race that saves the House for the GOP in 2006.
