The recent arrest and confessions of Hamed Jumaa Farid al-Saeedi shines an uncomfortable light (uncomfortable for those who warned such cooperation wasn't possible due to ideological differences) on what many observers of the Iraq war warned wasn't possible: Cooperation between Iraqi Baathists loyal to secular Saddam Hussein and religiously fanatic al-Qaeda.
al-Saeedi, also known as Abu Humam or Abu Rana, told his captors that he has been "'responsible for more attacks than he can remember' and has been involved in the insurgency almost from its beginning three years ago," according to officials. al-Saeedi admitted that "Al Qaeda in Iraq was cooperating with supporters of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein 'in the fields of exchanging information and logistic support (as has been documented here and here).'"
Reporters and residents in Baghdad did not need the confessions of al-Saeedi to know who was behind much of the anti-civilian violence, as evidence of the intertwined trail of terror being left by the Saddam loyalists and al-Qaeda was becoming increasingly evident.
IWPR's Zaineb Naji recently wrote from Baghdad that local neighborhoods are reporting that Saddam Hussein loyalists and al-Qaeda/Salafists have been trying to violently implement Islamic law on local communities, to control and intimidate these areas, with the broader hopes of turning Iraq into an Islamic state (similar plans were also mentioned repeatedly by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi just before his death).
Omar, of "Iraq the Model's", recent trip in Baghdad brought him details of what locals have seen in their neighborhoods regarding the violence used on civilians by both al-Qaeda and Saddam Hussein loyalists. Before an attempt to travel home after a funeral, one of Omar's relatives told him and his father of al-Qaeda's growing local presence. "At this point we began to realize the true identity of those young men and we began to believe that they became part of al-Qaeda" he said while describing the dangers of travelling locally. Omar's relative also relayed that "they belong to a few of the Sunni tribes and their chief is the son of former big head in Saddam's government."
Those who were most "efficient" at terrorizing Iraq for decades (Saddam Hussein's regime) are continuing to do so both directly (IED's, kidnappings, roadblocks, executions, etc) and indirectly via their continued support for al-Qaeda (logistical support, information, money, safehouses, etc.) wishing to set up a new version of fascism in Iraq, a Sunni Islamic state.

The original link at www.regimeofterror.com has numerous links inside the story. I apologize that they didn't come through to this post.
They usually do. If you click the hyperlink all links are there.
I don't know about anybody else, but most of us knew they had formed an alliance. Those who think otherwise are foolish. Even Sadar (a Shiia) was willing to form an alliance with Sunni radicals, look how he came to their aid when we first attempted to clean up Fallujah.
Understood -- no apology necessary.
I had not seen the background story in the link myself, and I relish the thought of someone making the likes of the #2 at al-Qaida talk.
I understand the war is going better than most news outlets let on.
This just lets another reader share in the victory some in Iraq are enjoying.
Partners in Terror-the DNC, MSM, Al-Qaeda, and the KKK..
Just got notified that this guy is ex IIS.
Major development. This guy is another one who went directly from Saddam's regime to leading al Qaeda.
Full list is here....

This guy being ex IIS is going to be very interesting.
Working for both IIS and al Qaeda he should know a LOT about prewar cooperation.

No problemo.
There may be some updates on this.
Thanks,
L
I can do that. You can also subsribe to my mailing list at www.regimeofterror.com if you are interested in news/analysis on this subject.
Thank You.
I'm told the typical Iraqi is a very smart person, one who appreciates higher education and civilization.
I look forward to Iraq being a free, prosperous, democratic and secure country.
Thanks Mark. BTTT!
On c-span tonight they were interviewing Iraqi journalists, saying , in the process, that all western news outlets are using inexperienced novices in country. this may be one reason we only get bombs etc.
The alliances between insurgents, i.e. non-state actors has more to do with cultural compatibility than it does Western categories such as - Sunni, Shii, Iraqi, Irani, Syrian, Bathist, Al-Qaeda, IRGC and so on. The West is at war with an ideology fed by a blend of lies about the West, ME nationalism, self victimization, ME solidarity, Islamic righteousness, and petroleum revenue. The architecture of the threat can be seen if Westerners are willing to see it. The threat resembles fascism but there are no hard and fast rules of thumb Western officials can use to formulate policy.

This is why I believe the West is likely to lose the GWOT. Not today, not tomorrow but in the centuries ahead. Westerners should start thinking millennially if they have an ambition to win the GWOT. I fear they dont. Most Westerners have trouble remembering what happened yesterday! Ask yourself, how socially repugnant is it when a Westerner articulates the superiority of their ideology? Is it not rare when a Westerner articulates their ideology at all? These are not trivial problems
Jeffersonian genius expects Westerners to make room for the expression of many ideologies in society. This is a beautiful concept that has made America strong, but not indefinitely. Jefferson saw the power of an ideologically competitive society. Unfortunately, Westerners today have misunderstood Jeffersons major premise. Westerners often abstain from voicing their own ideology in their own society. This is dangerous! I forecast the West will lose the GWOT precisely because it is absent at home and abroad from the real war, the war of ideas. The ideological battlefield is utterly dominated by fascists and there is no Western force capable of confronting the fascist threat today, much less defeating it.

The point is, GWOT threats are ambiguous and often amorphous threats. They arise directly from the ambiguities of ME society. This is why Western categories are likely to cost more innocent lives than they save. One cannot resolve an ambiguous problem simply by organizing arbitrary categories. In any case, the answer to this problem is clear. The west needs an ideological army. The West needs to take the asymmetric war to the enemys doorstep. An ideological army can defeat asymmetric threats where superior technology alone cannot. After reading G. Washington, Admiral Lord Nelson, Machiavelli, Clausewitz, Mao, Peter the Great, Sun Tzu, Imam Ali, Che Guerra I believe Maos guerrilla tactics could work splendidly for the committed Jeffersonian in the ME. The question is, can the West train and deploy Jeffersonians to the battle space? If the West started today, my pessimism would immediately change to optimism. The West could flip the ideological advantage overnight! Make no mistake, without the will to win our ideological fight a cruel destiny awaits us all.
"This is why I believe the West is likely to lose the GWOT. Not today, not tomorrow but in the centuries ahead."
Much sooner, I fear. The reason for my fear is not Islam's persistence but rather the effectiveness of liberalism here at home. We have already been nearly completely destroyed from within. Liberals hope to remake the country in their own, stalinist image, but the result will be an open door to our current enemies abroad. Islamofascism is a piece of cake, should we recover the will, as a country, to live.
That is a major development. Let's hope some terrorists are captured or killed as a result of ongoing interrogations of this guy.
Aryan Nations
http://www.aryan-nations.org/
Many have asked us, "why does Aryan Nations support Islamic terrorists?" My immediate response, as you can probably guess is, "One mans terrorist is another's Freedom Fighter." This is exactly how we see those around the world fighting jews, zionism and their puppets, as fellow "Freedom Fighters." You heard me right, I and the organization I represent, do not have a problem with those of other races who realize that those called jews today are our common enemy. Fact is folks, many I call friend are not of the Aryan race. Aryan Nations, it's members and adherents', show respect to all individuals and organizations that show respect to us. In order to eradicate zionism around the world and the control they have on our societies it is going to take a unified effort by all who identify jews and zionism as the enemy.
The major problem that we have had in the past believing that we could identify the jews to our kindred as the enemy they are, that they would understand and join us in our war against jewish communism; now called democracy (demon-ocracy). Unfortunately, that's just not been the case. Only a handful out of thousands of contacts have ears to hear and eyes to see. By limiting this "education" process to our Aryan kindred only and having no communication with various other non-white organizations undermines our intended results. Thus drastically reducing the potential of identification and eventual destruction of the yehudi-shataan! This is why I have changed Aryan Nations "modis operandi" to what and where it is headed today. No longer do we support or promote the practice of stereotypical "old school" style racism. What I mean by this statement is that instead of lumping all those of any specific race into one category we should be looking at them as individuals and sub-groups within that race
(snip)
I'm going to go throw up now & beat my head against the wall in the hope that the pain will go away.
Whereas the state often cannot sustain a given line of policy for any given amount of time
I don't know, we did it over the "Cold War". Granted that was then this is now and we don't see many Harry Truman's in the democrat party, still I remain...hopeful.

Lots of updates at the original regimeofterror.com link for those interested.
Please read.
I just read your remarks and wholeheartedly agree with you that this war the west has finally joined is an ideological war more than anything else, and as long as we follow the logic of concurrence and appeasement hoping it will lead to pacification and maybe even dialogue and negotiations we will fail, because by concurring with damaged, infested logic of radical islamist we are only flaming the fires of *his* self-righteous victimhood and entitlement which has amalgamized with a potent mixture of male chauvinism and misogynist dominance.
He was born to rule the world his mother proudly promised him from the moment he was born making him hate everything he can't dominate and rule, which makes him hate himself -- and his despairing mom! -- which makes him want to destroy what won't submit to him which has destroyed what he should have, could have been...if you get what I'm saying?
Thanks for ther ping!
