One thing at a time. First check for a hazardous environment, then send people to go have a look at the structures and such.And that's exactly what they are doing:

ARen't there some Google Satellite photos of the island yet?

I haven't tried that feature so I'm not sure how to do it.

Exactly the way it was handled with the Indonesian tsunami. NOT!

There was no one to rescue on Wake, they'd all been evacuated. Different priorities. With the tsunami there were enough reports *from the area* to know that things were bad, but also to know if airfield were safe, and where supplies were *probably* most needed.

In this case, there is no one to rescue, they left everything as buttoned up as they could, since they knew it was coming.

With no one to rescue why take risks?
