Steve Irwin 19622006
Steve Irwin and Bindi in 'Daddy's Girls' Sept 2006 When marie claire approached Steve Irwin to appear in this months Daddys Girls feature a tribute to famous fathers and their daughters we were told he would be only to happy because he would walk over hot coals for Bindi.
Such was the closeness of their bond that Steve said of his eight-year-old daughter, We hang out together, we play together, we work together. The sun rises and sets with my daughter Bindi, it really does.
Bindi, meanwhile, told us she would most likely make her Dad a homemade gift this Fathers Day which, sadly, was the final one they would share. hes always there when I need him most, she told marie claire. I love him very, very much.
Steve and Bindi were a pleasure to work with, according to our photographic team, who spent a morning with the Irwins at their family home, Australia Zoo on Queenslands Sunshine Coast. Even the three leeches that attached to Steves foot didnt bother him.
Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray barb while filming underwater off the Queensland coast on Monday, September 4. He was 44.
Thank you for this. I am so sick of the stupid comments tacitly blaming Irwin for his own death. What a great naturalist family this could have been, and hopefully Bindi and her mom will carry on Steve's legacy.
Beautiful. I have a feeling she will carry on his legacy. I think she's already "got" it.
That's his son, "genius."
They live in a zoo. At what age do you expose them to these things before fear takes over and there is no going back?
That photo was not his daughter, but his son, Bob...
He received way too much bad publicity with his son and the crocodile pit -- that was probably due to the "Tall Poppy" syndrome that exists here in Oz.
Most of the squawking came from prissy, scared city wimps.... Like others have said, the live in a zoo...it's like a farmer taking his kids with him while he feeds the livestock.
Prayers for him and his family
Oh, by the way, please add yourself to the list of Australian FReepers, since your obviously one. You do that by clicking on the "more" option in the upper right, go to "My Locale," and choose your locale from the list.
Thought y'all might like this follow-up story about Steve Irwin and his cute daughter Bindi.
Sunday, September 3, was Father's Day in Australia. He died on Monday, September 4, according to their time zone, but we knew about it on their Father's Day. Incredible.
I'm sad for the loss of Steve, I can't imagine the grief his family must be feeling right now as they were so tight knit.
Lord I pray your Holy Spirit blankets Terri, Bindi, and Lil' Bob with peace and comfort only you can provide.
You're welcome. It seems that there can't be a single thread here today simply for celebrating this man. He was unpretentious, full of life and such a family man. I am just devastated for his family.
OK, have clicked on the Oz locale. The "Tall Poppy" syndrome is explained by the fact that the tall poppies in the field are the first to get their "heads" chopped off. So translated into Aussie speak, when people start getting too much attention or doing too well (compared to their peers), we (and especially the media) like to start tearing them down. It is one of the bad things about Aussie culture.
I heard this explained at one dinner function best by a speaker who said that when American entrepreneurs did well, they like to brings their friends into the business, everybody does well, stocks are issued and people make a lot of money. When a Chinese young person does well, they bring their family into the business and everybody in the family does well. When an young Aussie does well, all his friends get jealous and his friends scratch his new car with their car keys when they walk by his car in the parking lot!
This man was passionate about life. He ate the whole thing. The love, the curiosity, the pain... in all ways, he was a lovely, vibrant soul who reminded us to look for the beauty and joy of God's creation.
