Israel, Palestinians to swap prisoners within 48 hours: report

Israel will release 1,400 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for its soldier taken hostage in Gaza since late June, the Qatar-based al-Sharq daily reported on Monday.

According to a deal, which will take effect within 48 hours, Israel will release Hamas ministers and lawmakers and reopen crossing points into Gaza, the report said.

Israel will also stop assassinations and return tax revenues owned to the Palestinian National Authority, it added.

In addition to the release of Corporal Gilad Shalit, who was seized by Palestinian militant groups on June 25, the Palestinians are asked to stop rocket attacks into Israel, said the report.

A number of Arab, Islamic, European countries and the United States played a role in achieving the deal "which will get the Palestinian National Authority back to the peace track in 48 hours, " said the newspaper, which said it obtained a copy of the secret deal.

According to the "copy of the deal," Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas threatened to pull back the Palestine Liberation Organization's recognition of Israel and resign "if Israeli massacres against his people continued."

The report said that Israel would call off all measures taken after the capture of Shalit.

Report: IDF Soldier To be Traded For Hundreds Of Palestinian Prisoners

(Undated) -- An Israeli soldier captured by Gaza gunmen more than two months ago is expected to be freed soon in exchange for the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. At least that's according to a report in the "Jerusalem Post."

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas confirmed earlier today in an interview with a Bahrain-based newspaper that an agreement has been reached to secure the release of Corporal Gilad Shalit. Abbas stayed away from the specifics of the deal, saying only that Shalit would be transferred to Egypt and held there until the Jewish state fulfills its end of the bargain.

Today's announcement by Abbas came on the heels of a report in the Egyptian newspaper "Al-Hayat," which indicated that Shalit had already been handed over to Egypt. It said the move was made as a direct result of Israel's promise to release a total of 800 Palestinian prisoners.

This whole thing worked out so poorly for Hezbolla, Hamas, etc. I don't think we'll see any more kidnappings to exchange for prisoners. Now we can give peace a chance! /extremem sarc

So Olmert surrendered to terror. So much for all his tough talk. The Palestinians learned that abducting Israelis pays.

(No more Olmert! No more Kadima! No more Oslo! )

How sad it is that Israel sold out. They need new leadership. Someone with the guts like Moshe Dyan (sic) or Golda Mier (again sic).

If this report turns out to be true, I suppose it will at least end the argument over who won the war. Not quite as picturesque as General Lee offering his sword to General Grant, but along those lines.

Israel has housecleaning to do, including those in uniform who sold the doofus PM on counter insurgency by air and long range artillary.

I don't think they're talking about the soldiers kidnapped by Hezbullah. Looks like this is about the guy that was taken in Gaza by Hamas. When Israel responded by going in and taking large numbers of prisoners, some of which were Palestinian officials.

My bad... I was in a hurry and typed Hamas in the keywords. If I wasn't at work I would hae made it clearer that the Soldeir was Shalit.

You mean the same Moshe Dyan that gave away the Temple Mount within hours of capturing it June 7, 1967?

The "mosques" on the Temple Mount should have been demolished on June 8, 1967, thus removing the "Jerusalem is ours" motto of the Pali-terrorists, but instead we can thank two generations of appeasement - Dyan included.

"Palestinians are asked to stop rocket"

Wow the Israelis empty their prisons, turn over tons of cash to the Palestinians, give in to every Palestinian demand and in return they "ASK" the Palestinians to stop shooting rockets at them.

The word capitulation comes to mind here. The Israelis need to get rid of Olmert or start sewing yellow stars on their cloths. Olmert is rapidly leading them to extinction. Of course that is all dependent on this being true and not a planted story to break Western spirits in the way that this just depressed me.

So I guess that means one Israeli is worth 1400 Palestinians?

If I'm reading this right, Israel knocks the crap out of the Palestinians in Gaza, and they're the ones having to make concessions? Something isn't right.

1400 ragheads for one Israeli! Well, I guess we can see the comparative value of the two.

Given these sort of numbers, what was all that whining I heard during the recent Hezbollah/Israeli war about some nonsense called "disproportional response"?

Under these rules, the Israelis should have been permitted to kill 1400 Palestinians for every Israeli killed.

"Israel will release 1,400 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for its soldier taken hostage "

Here is the repairman's plan:

1. Identify the five most high ranked terrorists being released.
2. Sedate them and implant a radio ID chip.
3. Gather some intelligence data.
4. Then blow them up when they get into a cluster of like minded associates.

By accepting this deal, the Islamofascists are admitting that one Israeli life is worth 1400 Islamofascist lives. We should put this message on the front page and keep it there.
