Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Haleigh Poutre was the victim of child abuse and was nearly killed via euthanasia when Massachusetts officials gave up on her after she entered a coma. Now Poutre, once termed "brain dead" by doctors, continues to improve and is speaking a few words, her grandmother says.
Sandra Sudyka, the girl's biological grandmother, is no longer allowed to visit her granddaughter and now says she is ready to speak to the media about Poutre's condition.
She told The Republican newspaper that she last saw Poutre on July 18 but indicated she was "doing well."
"She was bright-eyed and smiling. She is always responsive to us," Sudyka explained.
Department of Social Services had asked Sudyka not to talk with reporters about Haleigh, but since they will no longer allow her and Haleigh's biological mother, Allison Avrett, to visit the 12 year-old, she said she's going to talk to the media.
"I decided since they broke the deal, I am going to talk. People should know how well she is doing," Sudyka told the newspaper.
"They don't want people to know how she is doing after they wanted to pull the plug," Sudyka said.
DSS spokeswoman Denise Monteiro declined an interview with The Republican but said that the visiting privileges have been suspended, not terminated.
Haleigh first began speaking in June, her grandmother told the newspaper.
"I was saying to her 'I love you,' and she was trying to say 'love' and it came out as a vibration...'ove,'" Sudyka said.
Sudyka, who is working with an attorney to adopt the girl, said she has said hello, responds to comments and questions, speaks nonverbally and is able to write her name. Haleigh can't walk and is confined to a wheelchair.
Avrett, Poutre's biological mother, lost custody of her daughter after physically abusing her. Poutre was put into a foster home where her adoptive parents also abused her. Her adopted mother committed suicide after abusing Poutre so much she had to be hospitalized.
DSS took Poutre into custody and when she appeared to slip into a coma, the agency asked the state Supreme Court for permission to take her life. That's when Poutre began responding.
Poutre has been receiving physical, speech and occupational therapy since January 26 at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton.
Gov. Mitt Romney appointed a commission to look into how the state failed to properly handle the girl's case.
Rick Santorum is a good guy in an ugly arena. I hope he wins in a landslide.

Much more interesting is that the autopsy report killed MS's only alibi, the preposterous "bulimia" yarn invented by trial lawyer Gary Fox.

JEFFREY KOTTKAMP, TRIAL LAWYER, MORGAN & MORGAN for Lt. Guv. looks okay on the surface but he was on the House Judiciary Committee from 2002 through 2004. At that time, he should have investigated Judge Greer but he didn't. When he left that position, it was taken over by Crist pal Dave Simmons who also failed to investigate Judge Greer. Terri Schiavo's starvation death is the biggest coverup in Florida history. Even Kottkamp was a player. Sorry, he's done one thing in public and quite another to protect Judge Greer who belongs in prison.

Kottkamp is a parlor trick to fool Terri supporters. Even Michael is playing along that Crist is bad to get Terri supporters to vote for Crist because Mikey's barbaric agenda is served well by either nominee, Dem Davis or or RINO Crist.
I agree with Michael Schiavo. Everything is broken in Tallahassee. That's a first. Kottkamp is a parlor trick. He helped bump off Terri too.

Terri was alert and aware but the liberals keep mis-diagnosing her condition to write columns.
BTW, the pro-death crowd (as usual) wants to have it both ways
A. On the one hand they want to determine if a patient is worthy of being kept alive by relying on signs of activity in the patient's brainB. On the other hand signs of activity in the brain of a patient aren't good enough to preserve the patient's life, if the patient has little use of her body.
In other words, your brain has to be active in order for your life to have any worth AND, at the same time, having an active brain is not good enough to endow your life with worth.
The vaunted "brain activity" threshhold, for being allowed to live, is negated by the very people who demand it.

There's a good chance that Jeffrey Kottkamp never saw Greer's tv commercial but I wonder if he saw it now if he'd still be on Crist's team. Greer is Crist's hero as you know...
Corruption stinks. Jeffrey Kottkamp was fed but Terri Schiavo was starved and dehydrated to death. Crist selects a guy who the state did not get rid of because of a feeding tube. Terri had to die? This makes it even worse for Crist in his attempt to reach out to Terri supporters.
Kottkamp gets to live and Terri had to die? COME ON. Judge Greer still belongs in prison.
Kottkamp is not a good choice. He had an oath also to protect Terri Schiavo from 2002 to 2004 and he failed. He just voted for Terri to cover up what he did against her as House Judiciary Chair before Crist buddy Dave Simmons took over that post. Both Crist pals. Both protecting Judge Greer. BOTH TRIAL LAWYERS. His vote for Terri was to fool people because even Kottkamp knew the fix was in.
And, the liberals know beyond a reasonable doubt that Terri's life wasn't worth living. In that case, they should volunteer on suicide hot lines. It's the same kind of work actually, taking out people who just need help.
Can you see how selfish the death lobbyists are? Trial lawyers get to live but Terri's the exception. She had to die. Judge Greer "The law of the case is that she will die."
Kottkamp had A DUTY TO INVESTIGATE JUDGE GREER and he didn't do it. Why??????? Crist picks him for Lt. Guv. to appease Terri supporters? They're all still protecting Judge Greer, even Kottkamp.

The specific allegations are:
On or about July 2, 2004, a political commercial promoting the reelection of George W. Greer to the office of Sixth Judicial Circuit Court Judge, Group 18, was filmed on government property, a courtroom in the Pinellas County Courthouse. Participating in the political activity on governmental property in uniform, allegedly while on duty, was William Cunningham, a deputy with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department. Deputy Cunningham engaged in the political activity with the full knowledge and consent (and perhaps order) of Sheriff Everett Rice, according to Marianne Pasha, PCSO public information officer, and according to payroll records, was paid with taxpayer funds for doing so. Deputy Cunningham appeared in the political with a government-owned vehicle, a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department patrol car.
Also appearing in the political ad with their names and positions identified in writing on the screen were James Hellickson, assistant prosecutor in the office of Sixth Circuit state attorney Bernie McCabe and Paula Shea, assistant in the office of Sixth Circuit public defender Bob Dillinger, allegedly unlawfully using the influence of their titles and positions to attempt to influence a judicial election.
Also appearing in the political advertisement, allegedly improperly, were court officers and employees of the Sixth Circuit, names unknown. Elected public officers Everett Rice, Bernie McCabe and Bob
Dillinger in addition to William Cunningham, James Hellickson and Paula Shea in addition to as yet unidentified court employees, knowingly, willfully and intentionally used the influence and power of their offices and positions and in the case of at least William Cunningham, with the use of taxpayer funds, to attempt to influence the outcome of a judicial election, in essence controlling a judgeship and controlling the outcome of the Terri Schindler Schiavo case at a time when Sheriff Rice and Prosecutor McCabe had steadfastly refused to perform the duties of their respective offices to investigate matters of alleged criminal wrongdoing in the Schiavo case.
