The fact that the Constituion does not mention God is evidence that the Framers decided to leave mention of a Creator out of the Constitution.

You are tap dancing. Where are the Founder quotes that they were afraid of Christian participation in government? A bunch of guys opened a meeting with prayer every day, and no correspondence or debate exists that documents their wish to separate their own religious practice from the document they were building?

The state constitutions of Georgia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Vermont and (most notably) Virginia predating the Constitutional convention all have preambles that reference the Almighty. Are you saying that delegates from those states came to the convention and the subject of doing or not doing the same thing in the federal document never came up?

Slight correction to last post--not all the God references are in the preambles, just most of them. For example, Virginia references the Christian religion in their Bill of rights, calling certain Christian precepts a "duty."

You do know whey there is a first ammendment to the Consitution dont you? It wasnt out of the kindnest of their hearts. They feared having any one religious group take over the state and force their beliefs on the others as had occured in England and the rest of Europe.

"The clergy, by getting themselves established by law and ingrafted into the machine of government, have been a very formidable engine against the civil and religious rights of man."

-Thomas Jefferson, 1800

"The United States of America have exhibited, perhaps, the first example of governments erected on the simple principles of nature; and if men are now sufficiently enlightened to disabuse themselves of artifice, imposture, hypocrisy, and superstition, they will consider this event as an era in their history."

-John Adams, 1788

Now I have provided you two examples of our Founders eschewing any form of religious government, and even warning of the dangers of mixing religion and politics. It is now up to you to complete your own education.

That's correct, but try to get this straight, it is a freedom of religion not "from" religion. This means we have all the rights you secularists have, and maybe more because we are the MAJORITY.

Addressing your earlier points that you used to try and prove an imposition of religion, you are absolutely 180 degrees wrong. Playboy, and other porn, all manner of debauchery too numerous to list in this post have been imposed on us. We started this country as one nation under God. You and people like Lunatic have imposed your moral degradation on us. Then when we try and protect the very values that this country was founded on, people like pull out the religious imposition screed in an attempt to embarrass us into shutting up. It worked for a while. From the 60's to the 90's Christians were bullied into accepting the "modern" view that we were old sticks in the mud because we believed sex outside the marriage was "wrong", that dissemination of porn was "wrong", that all excess (drugs, drinking, eating) was "wrong' ,and not the way our God taught us to live. Prayer was "removed" from school, and we are trying to return to a time where if a child had a relationship with God, maybe he would be less likely to shoot another child over a pair of sneakers. We are trying to return to a time in our country when maybe if a woman weren't told by the porn industry to jump into bed with multiple partners, we might not be killing babies by the millions every year.
So you go ahead and believe what your humanist buddies tell you, that there are no consequenses for your actions. But remember this, a free republic (no pun intended) must have a strong moral foundation or it will fall, and like it or not our foundation was based on Christian beliefs, and I don't know of another in the history of mankind that has ever been as strong and yet people like you an Lunatic take some kind of perverse joy in watching that foundation being chiseled away. I don't understand why even if you don't believe what we believe, why you must exhaust so much energy deriding, and ridiculing. Seems to me Christians are much more tolerant. If we meet someone that doesn't believe we don't call them stupid, or try to take away your rights to participate in the political process. If what we are doing is so bad, then you take the majority, build your masses, and pass whatever laws you can. Until then you just have to "tolerate" our Christian country.
By the way, I used to be just like you. I used to screech about how Christians were "sticking their nose" in my business. I came to realize they were just showing me something that I didn't want to see. I am so happy I saw that it was me with the problem, and all I can do is Pray that you to will see the truth that is right there in front of you. There is nothing, nothing that compares with a personal relationship with God. So much of my anger, and stress, and psychological weight, and baggage just disappeared when I dropped my pride and asked for help with the journey.

Really? Who forced you to read Playboy?

This means we have all the rights you secularists have, and maybe more because we are the MAJORITY.

And there you have it. The American Taliban rears its obnoxious head. BTW, Fundie Christians are NOT the majority in this country so stop trying to act like you are. The Republican party would never win an election if it was comprised solely of fundamental Christians.

BTW, I am not a secularlist, or atheist. I believe in a god, the details of my beliefs I do not wish to share. You impose your beliefs by declaring that you will pray for non-believers and that we "will see the truth." It is an unseemly passive-aggresive method of trying to spread your religion through guilt. Guilt has been the modus operandi of Christianity from the beginning. Thanks, but no. I never understood why people choose such a way to live their lives. As long as I don't hurt anyone, I live my life the way I want. My girlfriend sleeps over several nights a wekk and we have sex. Why should that EVER concern you, your Fundie Friend, or the government? I dread to think what Fundies would do if they ever had the non-filibuster power they crave so badly.

CT, this is a classic!
You can tell candidates to go to hell.. No politican tells voters to go to hell.
Great stuff! -- that would seem obvious. But it ain't. You do a marvelous job at reminding us of the simple truths.

Wonderful news for Floridians. She's marvelous. She'll beat Nelson to a pulp.

She was begged by both GW and Jeb Bush not to run...I do believe these guys know more about politics than your or I.

The Bush's are in a real quandary. We know that Kathleen Harris can't be controlled. She will not just bow down and go away. We also know that as the Republican candidate she can make the case that the both Bushs are the most ungrateful of men. What do you think the odds are that the media would lead the news with that every night?

How many dollars worth of FREE media do you think the MSM would give Kathleen for using this race to trash both Bush brothers? And to make her credible they would have to play it as if she was the come from behind hero that was kicking Bill Nelson's butt. Bill Nelson is a small price to pay for getting all the other state wide races in Florida and making the Bush Bros. look very bad.

Kathleen Harris can go from the medias most hated person to the medias most loved person. All she has to do is trash the Bush Brothers for ingratitude. If that thought has not occurred to the Bush Bros... You can bet it has to every person in the media. And Kathleen does not have to think of it... she is getting about 20 such offers a day.

What a crock of crap!!!!

Do you have any idea why the Islamofacists have not attacked us since 911? Didn't think so.

They are absolutely certain that George W. Bush would blow most of the Muslim world to bits. They dare not do it.

But if we retreat from Iraq and come home all those terrorist will be certain that only Bush had the balls to resist them. Then they will attack.

I just hope they get your grandbabies and not mine.

"Wait until Nelson has to debate Harris.
Nelson can't put a thought together even if he had Kennedy's speech writers."

You said it. I heard Katherine on a local panhandle radio show recently and she is mighty impressive. She's one of the real conservatives we have left in the party. She will get my vote.

We've got to get rid of neoMarxist Nelson.

Yes, the Countryclub Republicans think that her mentioning religion means she'll lose the election since it's so tacky to mention religion

I've long thought that was a major part of the divide down in Florida. We had the same battle here in Minnesota a number of times...and it never seems to stay settled when we put up someone of faith...even when we win decisively.

In my house district we have some ancient "Big-Tent" RINO over-the-hiller who was hauled out of mothballs by the local Casino tribe (with a purported $40,000 "gift") brought out to challenge our guy in the Primary (never having shown his face or run at the District Convention)... It is clearly a torpedo run against the representative I have supported in his successful 4 straight terms whom I find more than satisfactory in his rock-ribbed conservative positions, dyanmism, energy for conservative causes and values... He is effective candidate of principal. Hence, he has become a serious target for the dinosaurs.

Well, this should prove interesting. But it shows that these folks still are attempting to destroy the true grass-roots conservative movement that Reagan ignited.
