CARROLL, N.Y. Police fired at a man believed to be fugitive Ralph "Bucky" Phillips early Friday after the fleeing suspect aimed a handgun at an officer, sparking a massive search near the Pennsylvania state line, authorities said.

Bucky is playing them.
They better hurry, its gettig dark.
Different Bucky I guess...
"There are over 1,000 cops after him at the moment. Odds are good some of them are going to shoot the others before this is over.
Bucky is playing them."
That wouldnt surpise me at all. Its also interesting that so many are having such a hard time finding a guy who, I think, wants to fight (ie be found).
I hope he gets his wish of 'suicide by cop'.
Are they using dogs?
Yep, a dog and officer encountered him and shots were fired both ways......the officer didn't know if he hit Bucky or not. This was reported by a Fox reporter today.
IF it is a heavily wooded area, it would be dark in there already. God speed our LEOs.
Ok, so he's armed and has a coat.
It's not like he's got a 60 lb. backpack.
I'm hoping the officer that fired at him earlier HIT HIS TARGET!!!!!
All of the news clips I have seen so far today seem to indicate they are setting up a perimeter and will "tighten the noose". I didn't see any dogs but I am sure they are using them. The problem of fratricide is a definite possiblity with as many officers as they have looking for him. He has said he will not be taken alive, making a very dangerous person.
Bump to follow story
Yeah, apparently the dog made enough noise to alert the POS to it's presence. I've had it done to me. I think when the shots were fired the officer was concerned for the dog and didn't let go.
***Are they using dogs?****
Yes. It was a trained dog that alerted the police near the edge of the forest. The dog growled. The officer shouted at the perp. Bucky turned and aimed a gun in his left hand at the officer. The officer shot at him. They don't know if he's injured. They're hoping the perp is injured and may die of loss of blood.
By the way, the officer said he held on to his dog's leash so he couldn't chase Bucky. He was right. The perp would have shot the dog and escaped.
They have him surrounded but by a very large area. They are DETERMINED to get him. One of the troopers he shot was shot in the back by Bucky.
I get the feeling "Bucky" is not coming out of this alive.
The state trooper who died after being shot by Bucky left a wife and a 13-MO-old boy.
They'll get him.
IF he was restraining the dog, he might not have gotten a good shot off at Bucky, dang.
I have heard that they have been coming from as far away as Albany.
In this part of the world we are talking about, New York, the Indians were exceptionally large ~ because they were all part of a warrior elite with an enormous percentage of members "adopted" (because of size, strength and skill at personal warfare).
There have always been traditionalists who raise their kids the old way. Neighborhood where I grew up had a couple of these guys ~ bank robbers as it turned out ~ and their baby sister was no slouch. At the age of 12 or 13 she could beat your average adult male to the ground, and if she'd been motivated, she could have killed him barehanded.
But, I digress. I suspect this guy worked himself up into a vision quest at the jailhouse just before he broke out, not that the jail could actually hold him if he didn't want them to.
Then the troopers went after him ~ mostly because they believe him to be excessively dangerous.
When the quest is done he'll surrender. But some of your smarter troopers know he can get out any time he wants.
I don't think Randy Weaver had this many cops after him and his family ~ 1,000+ . They must think the neighbors (his cousins) are helping him out. Let's hope they don't irritate the neighbors any more than they have already or an awful lot of folks could get hurt for no reason at all.
