It is really quite simple. The GOP wants to hold a majority in the Senate. Laffey has no chance of being elected. The only stunning thing is that so many on this board would rather see the Democats in control than the Republicans.

Laffey has no chance of being elected

An assumption completely unproveable by any available data. The Party has no business being involved in a primary fight. Especially to save a seat that votes with the Democrats on everything BUT who controls the chamber. We can lose Caffee seat and hold the Senate. It is stupid for the RNC to waste time and money on a primary. They continually make these idiot Rockefeller Republican moves. IF we lose a chamber it will be because of the arrogant stupidity of the Republican Establishement who wants to be Democrat Party Lite. If it is a choice between a Democrat and a Democrat wanna bee, the Democrat will win.

Exactly. To hell with priniciples. Party uberalles! The sooner all the principled folks around here get it the better the more the same as the Democrats we will be and we can finally be rid of this two party system. One party with an "R" behind each name will be pure perfection.

Party uberalles!

Neither does Chafee.

And even if he wins, there's no guarantees he'll vote with the GOP on key issues.

Tell your party hack GOP bosses to stay out of the primaries. This is what primaries are for - cleansing and getting rid of liberal Republicans. If Chafee wins the primary, then yes, hold the nose. Until then, the national GOP has no business interfering in primary elections.

No, the only stunning development is that anyone believes they can trust Chafee to vote to organize the ASenate for the GOP in a split.

Hopefully enough voters in R.I. aren't so naive.

No, the only not-so-stunning thing is the two-faced approach of the GOP uber alles folks, who on one hand tell conservatives to either win in the primary or support the moderate in the general election. And then, when a conservative is the front-runner for the GOP, the same folks stab them square in the shoulder blades.

It's shameless, and you and your brethern have a lot of nerve lecturing conservatives here. You just want to take our votes for granted but otherwise you see us as a political nuisance, getting in the way of pet GOP establishment projects such as amnesty, earmarks and entitlements.
