Wouldn't Mexico be a better place to celebrate Mexican independence?

Mexican Independence Day is September 16. I guess they just couldn't wait. (At least they know it's not May 5...Cinco de Mayo...which makes them smarter than most of the msm that get it wrong every year.)

How soon before it's an American national holiday?

250,000? Decent-sized turnout. Wonder what (small) fraction are U.S. citizens?

It'll belong to Mexico soon enough anyway. Oh, but they'll still get the welfare, tuition, etc at our expense.

The keenest form of Mexican nationalism is MOVING TO MEXICO.

We should have put a Freeper at the lead of the parade and head South for the border.

This should definitely not be a government-sponsored parade. If it was made similar to a common demonstration or protest, while legal, it still shouldn't happen. The only Independence Day of an earthly country in the United States should be the independence of the United States (Texas--and even more tenuously California--could have parades for their independence from Mexico) should be the American Independence.

This is a sign of bad assimilation. Both the immigrants and the natives have to work harder to assimilate the newcomers: the immigrants by accepting English and American customs; the natives by accepting that nonEuropean immigrants can be every bit as much American as any immigrant or native, and by encouraging the immigrants to act more American, and give them nudges in the right direction.

I just watched coverage of this event on the ABC-7 news. It is a parade celebrating ethnic heritage, not unlike a St. Patrick's Day parade or a Columbus Day parade. There were politicians, TV and radio personalities, musical and dancing groups, and so on.

The video tape showed people lined up on either side of the street watching and they seemed to average two to three deep on the sidewalks. Kids sitting on the curbs, adults behind them, and in places, some standing behind others looking between and over the shoulder of those in front of them.

The parade route was two miles long through East L.A. If that is about twenty blocks then the 250,000 figure seems exaggerated. That would be 6,000 people along one side of the street for each city block. That would be an impenetrable mass of bodies and in every scene shown on television there was ample space for families to pass on the sidewalk behind those who were watching.

It was a family event, the people shown were having innocent fun. There was no mention of La Raza or Reconquista although that element may have been present but unreported in this newscast. The gangsters must have taken a day off as there were no reports of drive by shootings, but then the streets were blocked for the parade.

Don't forget that September 15th is VM Day, Victory over Mexico, when the Stars and Stripes replaced the Mexican flag over the Presidential Palace in Mexico City in 1847. Of course we didn't stay and we paid a handsome price for barely inhabited land that, with the exception of Texas, the Mexican government had shown little interest in.

Finally, please note that Cuervo is one of the worst tasting Tequilas produced in Jalisco. I urge all celebrants of Mexican heritage to expand your horizons and try other Tequilas in the name of refined culture and good taste.

They should really bring in "La Migra" when these events occur.

About 70 deputies, were monitoring the parade, according to Healey,

They should have been making arrests, instead of monitoring!!!!!

AlQaeda will never have enough power to take down America.

But the invasion by hoardes of third world semi-socialists from south of the border, and elsewhere in the world WILL BE THE DEATH kneld of our way of life.

After all, it is no coincidence that life in America in 2006 has become so harsh, so violent, so multi-cultural and crazy when compared to the American way of life I recall as a youngster (late 50s and early 60s).

I refuse to have my kids and grandkids grow up in an America where they have to fight for the right to be proud of their Eurocentric and Judeo-Christian way of life, much less than the right to speak English.

If we do not stop this illegal (and LEGAL) invasion from third world cultures, I fear America has less than 80 years before the dark powers-that-be will be strong enough to kill the America we know from inside.

Just look at the political situation in California today. There are groups who legally succeed in getting a 50 year old cross on a hill near San Diego declared illegal.

Conservatives have nary a chance for success.

WAke up, folks. (and I hate to think of myself as an alarmist)
