Don't you think you have the responsibility to be the slightest bit honest about his position?
Don't you think Romney has that responsibility???
Don't you think Mitt has the responsibility to be honest about his position on abortion? Why does he still refuse to answer reporters' questions about it? He says his position has never changed, then he says he's in a new place, then he says he's had a "conversion" -- don't you think he has the responsibility to come out and explain himself, to say what he really believes, and what legislation he would support to make abortion illegal, if he is going to call himself pro-life?
Why are you attacking me for publicizing Romney's public statements but letting him off the hook for weaseling around and trying to play both sides?
Well if it turns into a "hold your nose and vote for..." election (a looming possibility) then on the "hold your nose scale:, it's like this:
McCain - Where's my Scuba gear?
Guliani - I can get by with a snorkel
Romney - hold your breath long enough to pull the lever.
I really wish that Gingrich was more possible...
I think most of the country will be surprised by Mitt. Very surprised. No politician I can think of, except Ronald Reagan, comes close to his ability to communicate. He's second to none on his feet. He has the look and gravitas to sway lots of people.
Some examples of his ability to deflate liberal arguments is the way he communicates about fighting Islamic Fascism. He says, basically, we have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and chief among them is the right to life - it's very affective. About Katmai (sp) he said, well he might be a moderate terrorist but he's a terrorist none the less and we aren't paying for his visit. He went on to explain how Harvard should be ashamed that it would not allow Ronald Reagan to speak yet allows a terrorist like Katami a platform on the eve of 911.
About the MA health care plan somebody mentioned earlier, wait till you hear him explain his rationale. Basically, he says we are all paying anyway. Today the taxpayers pay the full freight when these people show up in the ER. In this plan, everybody has to pay something. Again, it's a very affective argument.
George Romney was of the regular LDS persuasion. He was born in an LDS colony in Mexico.
This colony was set-up as a place where polygamy could still be legally practiced. The issue of George Romney not being born on American soil was just coming to the fore in his campaign when it tanked over the "brainwashing" statement.
Romney is a big improvement over Rudy and McCain, both of whom have far too much baggage.
Of the three, I'd pick Mitt, but still think we can do better.
Will you have TV cameras?
I don't know about George Romney, but the RLDS split off over a disagreement over who Joseph's Smith sucessor was.
They thought that the leader should always be a decendant of Joseph Smith. Since then they have become a rather liberal denomination and have had to 'adapt' a lot of things (plus they changed their name to 'Community of Christ'). They are a small group and don't have all that much left in common with the LDS.
Giuliani is the same on the subject, or worse.
Between the two I think Romney is still MUCH more conservative overall. One man's opinion on abortion won't matter much, really. Esp. if Bush gets one more good SC nominee in the door before '08.
I would vote for Romney with no problem at all. I think Rudy would be good as far as national security is concerned--I wouldn't trust him on judges though. McCain---he's too old and too quirky. OK he was a POW--God Bless him for that, but c'mon you have to get beyond that. I do believe that because the president is commander in chief of the armed forces, past military service should give him a bond with the men & women in uniform. But since there's been a volunteer army for such a long time, the pecentage of politicians who served in the military is going to be less when you're looking at the under 50 group. Romney should catch a break in reghard to his religion. It is like judging the Roman Catholic Church through what the Sede-vacante folks (small group of arch traditionalists that believe there is no legitimate Pope---name means "the vacant chair"(CHAIR OF PETER) or some lunatic pseudo Catholic group that has taken it upon themselves to ordain women.
My main concern is the devotion to big government and high taxes that come so naturally to the Northeast politicians--not whatever he believes about Mormonism.
Who's your pick? I'm not being a smart aleck, I am curious who you like.
PA, MA, NH, MI.
I don't have a problem with voting for Romney, but Mormons are polythiests who believe that when you die you can become God and get your own planet. In fact Adam/God was once a human from another planet.
"Differences" is an understatement.
"Besides the rats would rip him to pieces because of being a mormon."
I hate to admit it, but Harry Reid is a mormon too.
Ditto for NYS and I live there.
Reagan, Bush 41 & Bush 42 have all altered their abortion views. Romney would be no different.
I don't need a Brownback-style social conservative.
All I want-
Pro-gun
At least nominally pro-life
Anti-gay marriage, or a "leave it to the states to recognize it or not but I'm not passing a legalization law nationally" attitude.
Fiscal conservative
No-nonsense approach to the War on Terror and Illegal Immigration
Give me that and I'll probably say "OK."
