GETTYSBURG, Pa. - A woman admitted to smoking marijuana daily with her 13-year-old son to reward him for completing his homework. Amanda Lynn Livelsberger, 30, pleaded guilty to several charges Monday and will be sentenced Nov. 27.

Livelsberger, of Conewago Township, admitted in Adams County court that she had been smoking marijuana with her son since he was 11, and that she often gave it to him as a reward.

The boy told police that he was required to do his homework as soon as he got home from school, and then was allowed to smoke marijuana with his mother, according to court documents.

Livelsberger pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of corruption of minors, possession with intent to deliver drug paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of a small amount of marijuana with intent to distribute.

The plea did not stipulate a sentence.

The woman also said she also smoked marijuana with two of her son's friends, ages 17 and 18, police said. The 18-year-old also told investigators he had also bought heroin from Livelsberger.

Anyone else recall those classmates in high school who smoked a lot of dope and received the highest grades in school?

4 of the top 10 (measured by GPA) students in my 450 student senior high school class were pretty serious potheads. 25 years later, the 3 that I have kept up with are doing quite well. And 2 of them still smoke pot.

Ritalin is a useful drug for those who actually need it. You can't compare it to pot smoking, which has no benefit at all, except to turn a kid into a brain-dead goof-ball later in life.

Studies of brain growth and development show that during these early teen years is the last time the brain shows accelerated development, then brain then actually sheds a lot of unused brain cells in it's final development.

Those who use as much of their brain as possible during this period tend to retain more brain cells, and have slightly larger brains when they reach full growth. They have better short and long term memory, and are able to learn faster. They may also suffer less brain deterioration in their old age. Ritalin, which actually helps some children focus and concentrate and therefore learn better, would appear to also help these childrens brain development, giving them a chance of achieving a higher education level, and onward to better employment, something they otherwize would not achieve without it. Pot is useless in every way, and often leads to a poorer quality of life, not to mention cronic depression problems.

"Except for the legality issue...." That is a real issue to overcome, especially the heroin part.
Just think of all the things you could do if it wasn't for the legality issue.
Your reasoning sounds somewhat like what child molester might use.

this 13 y/o will be in foster care before the sun goes down today, and be a ward of the state at the end of momma's case unless he has a father or grandparents that can withstand pre-placement scrutiny.

Jeff Spicolli walks into class late and carrying a pizza...

Mr. Hand: "MR. SPICOLLI?"

Jeff Spicolli: "That's the name they gave me".

Mr. Hand rips up Jeff's hall pass. rip rip rip

Spicolli: "Hey, your'e ripping my card.

Mr. Hand: "Yeah"

Spicolli: "Hey bud; what's your problem?"

Mr. Hand: "No problem at all. I think you know where the front office is."

Spicolli: "Dick!"

From her name and the area, do you suppose she's Amish? Except for the selling heroin part. That's pretty worldly.

That's odd. Most heavy pot users turn out to be failures in life, never achieving higher education. They become welders, construction workers, auto mechanics, or work for the city, and become union members, whining to the government about legalizing pot. In fact pot and all things about it are their only intrest. There is always the odd exception of course.

Most I know are either dead, losers, unemployed most of the time, divorced, drink alot, are half bald with graying ponytails, And IF they own a home, it's not much of one, with weeds in the poorly kept patchy lawn, at least one car parked for years to the side of the driveway with a transmission removed and tires missing, and they have no interest in anything in life except watching TV while their kids are out breaking into other peoples cars and stealing stereos and vandalizing other peoples property. The rest are on welfare or in prison for various offenses.

Are you sure that it wasn't one of those "special classes"? Odd that the pot heads would actually be smarter than the rest of the class. It doesn't say much for your communities' gene pool.

Except for the legality issue, this is no different from the thousands, maybe millions, of parents who give their kids Ritalin everyday so they will do their homework.

Take it from someone who has been there: ritalin is way worse than mary jane ever thought about being.

That's why I threw the size of the class in there - so a sharp person would pick up that this was not a school in a small, in-bred community.

You sure know a lot of potheads.

I take issue with your Ritalin comment that you make. If you knew anything about ADD, or knew anyone that needed ritalin/concerta you wouldn't make such an asinine comment. While I don't like giving one of my children ADD drugs, I don't like the effects of not giving it to her. She never bounced off the walls, but could not concentrate and was failing despite hours of help my wife & I both gave her every night. She is doing great now thank you and will be a productive member of our society in the future. There will not be welfare kids, deadbeat dads and illegal drugs in her future. Her contributions into the failing SS system will help support A-holes like you when you are retired.

You can go forth in ignorant bliss, but please keep stupid comments like your legality issue to yourself.

This is a ridiculous statement. As a parent of a child who had many attention problems in school, she was given Ritalin. It helped her to focus and to retain her friends, when their parents were telling them "Stay away from her, or you'll get in trouble, too."

What's ridiculous is parents who find it easier to medicate than to be parents. Over my father's objections this stuff was force fed to me for several years. I DID NOT retain my friends in fact, I lost every one of them I ever had up until that point because I refused to talk to anyone while I was under the influence. You are not the same person while you're on it. By the time I got to where I quit taking it, I was in 8th grade. Problem is, I hadn't really socialized with anyone over the past 5 years so I literally had the social skills of a third grader. So I was further isolated from my peers. You have no concept how thoroughly bad for a person Ritalin can be. It took nothing short, literally, of an act of God for me to ever get away from it (plus a move to another city).

People who use marijuana ought to get nothing more than a fine. People who sell it or give it to minors ought to see some prison or jail time. I can't say aloud what ought to be done to parents that give Ritalin to their kids instead of parenting them without violating the decency rules on FR.

Ritalin is far more dangerous and detrimental than pot ever thought about being.
