GETTYSBURG, Pa. - A woman admitted to smoking marijuana daily with her 13-year-old son to reward him for completing his homework. Amanda Lynn Livelsberger, 30, pleaded guilty to several charges Monday and will be sentenced Nov. 27.

Livelsberger, of Conewago Township, admitted in Adams County court that she had been smoking marijuana with her son since he was 11, and that she often gave it to him as a reward.

The boy told police that he was required to do his homework as soon as he got home from school, and then was allowed to smoke marijuana with his mother, according to court documents.

Livelsberger pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of corruption of minors, possession with intent to deliver drug paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of a small amount of marijuana with intent to distribute.

The plea did not stipulate a sentence.

The woman also said she also smoked marijuana with two of her son's friends, ages 17 and 18, police said. The 18-year-old also told investigators he had also bought heroin from Livelsberger.

They become welders, construction workers, auto mechanics, or work for the city, and become union members,

And what's wrong with any of these, excepting the union part? Are all auto mechanics potheads? Where do you get off on all this?

Even scarier - these are the ones who will be taking care of feeble Baby Boomers in nursing homes and hospitals.

Anyone else recall those classmates in high school who smoked a lot of dope and received the highest grades in school?
Bill Gates?

That's odd. Most heavy pot users turn out to be failures in life, never achieving higher education.

Carl Sagan?

Selling heroin to your childrens friends is no different... wow! You can't think this makes the Libertarians look good.

If that's true, why wasn't she charged with selling heroin?

You can't think this makes the Libertarians look good.
Where does it say she's a Libertarian?
Do Libertarians condone selling heroin to children?

I happen to be one of those pot-heads in high school. I was always an honor roll student (A's and B's), went to University of Alabama (smoked a lot of weed there too!), and have worked all my life in the computer industry. (Check out most of your artsy and computer types, most have a similar background). By the way, I haven't noticed any long term effects. Unlike alcohol and tobacco.

Let me amend that last statement. No noticable long term effects except for the fact that I keep voting Republican.

Now - really - you do have to admit that the woman described in this story is not average. In fact - in 34 years of living in the cannabis culture - I've never seen a case like this.

Does this one example mean that the billions spent every year in the U.S. trying to track down 30 million cannabis users is justified?

I say not.

Ha! Your comments don't say much for your community's gene pool either...you apparently need to hang around a better class of pot smokers. Most professionals I know...and yes, I did say professionals...see it as no worse than having a drink after a hard day. You wouldn't even know they smoke if they didn't tell you. Speaking of watching TV all day, it's time for you to throw out that Reefer Madness tape...amotivational syndrome is a myth

An 18 year old who hangs out with 11 years olds...This doesn't sound a little strange to you? They didn't charge her with selling heroin...why not?

Hey mugs -

Does there seem to be a lot of that "mothers giving children marijuana to get children to do homework" - as far as you know? You may elaborate if you know of useful data.

I've seen evidence of both. I've known some big-time potheads who ended up (1) owning their own company after being president of another or just plain out (2) succeeded in a decent career, grew up and matured and also (3) ended up being a bicycle messenger and at age 51 that is still what he is doing. He still looks and sounds like a total burn-out too.

I think it depends on a lot of factors but I won't dispute that the likelihood to be #3 in the above scenario is greater with abuse of pot.

A couple of the keys with whether a person let's cannabis control their lives:

1 - Cannabis is not strongly addictive and if a person chooses to lay it down - it's not that hard to do.

2 - If someone gets snagged up in the judicial system in regard to cannabis use and they are prone to doing mind altering substances - they may move on to less noticeable substances. (That - to me is a real bad thing about the prohibition of cannabis.)

I've been wanting to use this for a while -

Keep your laws off my bong!

Lol...
Mother's giving kids pot to do homework is a new one to me.
I did know a dad who gave his son a beer for every A he got on his report card.
