September 13, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - Taliban terror leaders who had gathered for a funeral - and were secretly being watched by an eye-in-the-sky American drone - dodged assassination because U.S. rules of engagement bar attacks in cemeteries, according to a shocking report. U.S. intelligence officers in Afghanistan are still fuming about the recent lost opportunity for an easy kill of Taliban honchos packed in tight formation for the burial, NBC News reported.

Q: How do you win a PC war? A: You don't.
REALLY p***ed me off ;(
What kind of war are we fighting???
Don't kill the enemy, it might offend them!
We ain't gonna win at this rate!
Geez how much more convenient can it get? They were already in the cemetery!
I think this was implemented during the Clinton administration so that the Marxists attending the Wellstone funeral were protected.
One Hellfire back then and this country would have been so much better off.
This is so disgusting. The Talibandits wouldn't think twice about killing a huge group of US forces gathered together like that at a funeral or prayer service. PC IS KILLING US! It is total insanity. Napolean said, "If your object is to take Vienna, then take Vienna.".........
This will be a key scene in the movie commemorating the path to the next terrorist attack.
Actually this is a good opportunity because it allows the Taliban to be more open.
We will get them next time.
Who was at the funeral??? Mullah Omar?
Interesting. first we advertise "the trail of bin laden is cold", now we come out and say "we don't attack in certain situations.
am I the only one who reads a "Setup" in these items?
Rules of engagement work both ways.
The cemetery would have been a perfect place to cremate these animals. Screw the rules of engagement.
A: You don't.
The path to 911 just gave us a clue to how insane we have become.
The insanity continues.
Both the Taliban and killers in Iraq have attacked and ambushed our troops in cemetaries.
Some say the fact that we don't makes us "better" than they are.
To me, it just makes us deader.
The funeral has to end sometime. Just strike after the funeral if you must avoid hitting the funeral.
What I do not understand is that we have this rule that does not allow us to attack the Taliban at a cemetary.
Are they still in the cemetary or did these people leave?
Didn't we blow up their vehicles after they left? Didn't we station troops to intercept them as they left the cemetary?
I agree it is a stupid rule, but c'mon, how about a little military strategy here!
Check this out!
What would we have done if Bin Laden was in that crowd? Waited. We were going to send them all to their own funeral anyway. This is nuts! Stupid too..
Government employees (Valarie Plame/Joe Wilson/Alger Hiss) can politic with impunity and get away with anything as long as they advance the agenda of the left. I'm not asking any bureaucrat on our side to politic-- just to risk their career to do what's right.
This reminds me of when Clinton wouldn't fight during Ramadam because it is a Muslim Holy Month.
The BIG question is: Why after "conservatives" have been in control for 6 years, are we still fighting a PC war?
" we need only one real man to risk his career by doing what needs to be done"
My exact reaction when I heard this story on FoxNews. Damn the PC and full-speed ahead.
I suspect this story is misreported at best. More likely it's complete bunk.
One stop shopping imho
Hey Tomguy, stuff like this is what separates us from barbarians....we have plenty of opportunities to kill them away from a cemetery.
Flame suit on.
It was reported on Fox and Friends, and that means it's true. I'm sure they fact-checked the story. (putting on flame suit)
They don't respect our religious observances, we shouldn't respect theirs during wartime.
The level of compassion exercised by the US Military should be limited to letting the enemy bury their dead before you kill them. One less body to bury.
let him know that you have no idea where he is, let him go out in public with confidence - right into your sights.
Couric will use it first. She and CBS News will use it as proof positive Lara Logan got it right in her 5 September "exclusive": Among A Resurgent Taliban
No comparison will be made concerning how the Taliban does murder or treats funeral services: Bombing At Afghan Governor's Funeral
A suicide attacker on Monday detonated a bomb in eastern Afghanistan where hundreds, including Cabinet ministers, gathered for the funeral of a provincial governor who died in a suicide blast the previous day, police and witnesses said. At least five people were killed and 30 wounded.
I say old chap, it wouldn't be sporting, killing the enemy while he's in formation.
This is the kind of crap that gives them hope. It enforces their idea we are not committed to winning this struggle.
Any chance that a number of these Talis were followed after this funeral? Do we have a line on a hiding place because of not hitting the fire button? Can more Taliban be killed because of holding off on this opportunity?
All questions I'd like answered before I get overly upset about it.
If they come back no, THEN I'll be pissed.
It's pretty late in the game (2nd half of 2nd term) to be suggesting that Bush and Rumsfeld have had no ability to modify the RoE to their satisfaction.
Maybe next time the talbos will be confident that we will not strike a cemetary, more, and higher level people will congregate there and it will become their permanent home due to a well placed hellfire missile.
We can hope...(can't we?)
How can you offend them. Take them out and you send them to 72 virgins.
Western Civilization's tombstone is going to read, "Killed by Political Correctness."
WAving the red flag in front of bulls is not a commentary on the thoughtfulness of bulls either.
One Hellfire back then and this country would have been so much better off.
Sorry Andy...Wellstone died in 2002, not during the Clinton administration.
Your contention that we had Adolf and all his lieutenants in our sights at a funeral, is that we should have held our fire and let them all walk away? to get them another day?
Taliban terror leaders who had gathered for a funeral
We could have set them back by months or YEARS! These are the same people who are killing our military service members over there, PULL THE TRIGGER ALREADY!
as the Taliban splintered into tiny groups - too small to effectively target with the drone
Strategy is decapitating the enemy, not cutting off its tail and hoping we get a shot at its head again "someday".
Is this John Kerry's "more sensiteive" war, or just LBJ and McNamara in Vietnam?
These rules of engagement are totally insane. Here was a gathering of most of the leading Taliban figures and we can't bomb them? Who made these rules?
I know we're the more civilized people -- which is wy we don't torture -- but rules like these are rules that completely prevent victory.
As General CDouglas MacArthur once said, "The purpose of war is victory, not the prolongation of endless hostilities."
Now let's go kill people and break things.
