AP National NewsGiuliani Fears His Health Hurt on 9/11 By KAREN MATTHEWS Associated Press Writer
NEW YORK -- Former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, who led New York through the horror of the 2001 attacks, said his health and that of his wife and aides could have been affected from exposure to toxic smoke from the burning World Trade Center.
"I spent as much time here as anyone," Giuliani said Monday, the fifth anniversary of the attacks. He said others potentially at risk included his wife, Judith; his spokeswoman, Sunny Mindel; and two deputy mayors.
Giuliani said anyone whose health suffered from work at the trade center site is "entitled to the same support, the same assistance and the same help that the families got who lost loved ones here."
Giuliani spoke to reporters after presenting checks totaling $60,000 to trade center victims' charities from former New York Giants head coach Jim Fassel's foundation.
Asked about former federal Environmental Protection Agency head Christine Todd Whitman's recent assertions that responsibility for providing masks to workers on the debris pile lay with the city, Giuliani said, "We certainly gave people instructions that they should wear masks."
"I was here five, six times a day for four months," Giuliani said. "I kind of thought of it as living here. And there were times when I wore a mask when you got near the pile. Times when I didn't. Those were the instructions. I don't remember that from EPA, though. What I remember from Christie Whitman is her saying that the air was fine."
He added, "Instead of wasting time in finger-pointing, time should be devoted to figuring out how to get people the benefits, the help and the assistance they need."

I'd rather see Rudy than McCain as the nominee.
Five years later the finger-pointing still goes on. Can anyone imagine that those heroic workers would not have suffered life long effects from the ash and debris? Did it matter to those heroes at that critical moment? No. Give them due benefits now.
The problem is McCain is certifiably INSANE, but Rudy is a DANGER to the Republic.
Its like having the choice of dying from Cancer or a Coronary.
It never ceases to amaze me.
For some folks, politics are ~everything~.
How else can you explain the wishing of illness upon another simply because they're not your idea of a good candidate?
Just vile.
FWIW, I think Rudy would do just fine as President.
Glad to see someone on this thread shared my same response to Condor's post.
You're a real jerk.
BS. I wish Hillary would get sick and die. As for Rudy,if he never becomes president it will be too soon.
Revolting comment. It might be a good idea to revise and extend that remark.
Hopefully post 2 will be deleted.
I mean, whatever you think of Rudy, he put all his personal wishes aside and took care of things on 9/11 like FEW leaders in this country. I wholeheartedly admire him for that. He knew what to do in a crisis beyond our imagination and he did it. I pray he does not suffer any ill health from it.
In your case I'll go a step further: You're an evil asshole.
Maybe your wishes will come true....you'll fall ill and Rudy will be our next POTUS.....
Trouble is, that will cause an already huge govt. to dip further into taxpayers pockets. Somewhere, sometime, somehow, the entitlement train has got to come to a stop.
You are clueless.
You need to grow up. Conservatives change the world with ideas, not by burning effigies, wishing people get sick or die, or other childish things.
I don't like Hillary but I'm not going to hope she gets sick. It would be a much more effective use of my time to communicate my conservative ideas rather than wish a political opponent is 'removed.' Your type of thinking is scary because every despot in history has used it to justify his actions.
The "True" conservatives (those who will only vote for someone 98% of the people REJECT) hate Rudi. Their jihad against him has reached desperate levels as it becomes more and more clear that the nomination is his if he wants it.
