LG was elected to the US House in 94 and then made a name for himself as one of the House managers during impeachment. He served 4 terms in the House and then pretty much walked into Strom Thurmond's Senate seat in 2002. He's got the conservatives here in SC pretty well hacked off about now - after the gang of 14 business he was skating on thin ice. This cracked it, IMO.
