I ran into one of those "sinks" in Milan for the first time. I think you have to lay on the floor to use them? I held what I had to do until I reached my apartment.

I think it is used in a squatting position, the feet on either side of the floor beside the sink while balancing. Left hand is called "Charmin" and it is not nice to wave with the left hand in those cultures that still practice the invisible Charmin usage.

One of the first things everyone seems to notice about Europe is that no two toilets are the same. The worst one I saw was in Germany, which was sort of a collective urinal that looked like a trough running along the floor of the restroom. It was designed to maximize splatter and urine smell. The Germans probably don't care because the Turks clean the restrooms...which probably explains why the Turks hate Europeans.
I'm going to be in Milan in a few weeks, and I'll just make sure I use the toilet before I leave the hotel. :)
