HAVANA - Cuban television showed brief video footage of ailing President Fidel Castro standing to greet UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, and chatting with the visiting dignitary.
You look very well, your handshake is strong, Annan told Castro during the meeting in a hospitAl like room.
The Cuban leader, clad in a dressing gown, stood up to greet Annan, and then sat down as the two chatted.
Let me tell you, you look very well, after traveling so much ... around the world, Castro said in a soft voice.
Castro gave the UN chief a copy of 100 Hours with Fidel that features 800 pages of interviews with the Cuban leader.
Castro, 80, is recovering from intestinal surgery he underwent in July, when he temporarily ceded power to his brother and designated succesor Raul.
Raul was also representing the strongman at a two-day summit of the Non-Aligned Movement that started Friday.
Since his July 31 announcement that he was convalescent, the communist leader has appeared on several occasions in photos and video footage, and has met several visiting dignitaries.
Nope, he's not full of himself! /sarc
Where's a MOAB when you need one?
I hope they used a condom.
I don't.
Old Kofi is really getting around. Last week the ME and now Cuba. I wonder what kind of jet he is provided with and who pays for these trips.
You and I pay for 27% of the crooks expenses.
I was thinking more in terms of birth control. If they're going to be screwing goats, we don't want them having any kids.
well, I'm sure if any kids are ever discovered we can rally some townsfolk with pitchforks and torches and march on the castle Annan
Kofi's term is up in December and it only takes one veto from one of the 5 permanent members to boot him if the Security Council nominates him for a third term. Does anyone know of any activism to urge the US to veto him or who the Security Council is considering for the next Secretary General (besides Clinton)? Of course the best thing to do is kick the UN out of the US, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. BTW, no Secretary General has ever served three terms in the history of the UN. We need to make sure Kofi's is not the first!
