War Inside the Wire You can handle the truth about Guantanamo Bay
The Opinion Journal ^ | September 16, 2006 | James Taranto

GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba--You might call Rear Adm. Harry Harris a jailer. As commander of Joint Task Force Guantanamo, a job he has held for six months, he is in charge of one of the world's best-known detention facilities. But if you call this place a prison, he will correct you.

"Prisons are about rehabilitation and punishment," Adm. Harris told me in a phone conversation last week, reiterating a point he had made a few days earlier in a briefing for visiting journalists here. "What we are about is keeping enemy combatants off the battlefield. . . . The enemy combatants that we have here were captured on the battlefield or running from the battlefield, and they were engaged in combat operations against Americans, and in many cases killed Americans. What we're trying to do here in Guantanamo is simply keep them off the battlefield, because we know that many of them would go back to the fight."

The really shocking thing about the Guantanamo facility is the disgraceful PC leniency with which these subhumans are treated, leniency that makes obtaining actionable intelligence nearly impossible.

The left has successfully disarmed us against them with the institution of political correctness. Not only does it forestall debate on many subjects but it requires us to fight a brutal enemy who follow no rules while imposing upon us very restrictive rules of engagement. Why?

The Democrats, who represent the left in this country, squeal when someone suggests they are unpatriotic. Does that not remind you of the Muslims reacting to what the Pope said and the cartoon brouhaha? The idea is to kill a gnat with a sledge hammer, to overreact to such an extent as make any others think twice before further criticism. That is common tactic of the left.

However, look at what they are doing concerning Guantanamo. How else can that be interpreted other than favoring the terrorists over us? They try hard to eliminate our intelligence gathering and analysis against the terrorists? Why?

It is certainly not any concern for individual rights and privacy as they say. Not from a group that didn't raise a whisper about lots of FBI files being filched by one of their own.

I would say Guantanomo is more like an asylum for the religiously insane.

The prisoners there are hard core fanatics who would and have killed at the drop of a hat.

These people cannot be cured, they are permanently mentally ill much like serial killers.
Only mentally ill people would even contend that they should be placed back into any society.

Why?

Because their lust for POWER recognizes no enemy but those who hold it.

Very profound and succinct.

Much like a dog with rabies, these people need to be put out of their misery.

Give them a military trial, and if found guilty put them down.

These sub humans should have simply been executed after wringing all valuable information from them by whatever means it takes.

The liberals and MSM stil believe that these people are criminals and should be treated like criminals are in the US....given all sorts of free legal help on the taxpayer's dime to avoid conviction and even if convicted they are to be "rehabilitated" because God know it wasn't their fault that they commited any crime. These guys are war criminals and are guilty of crimes against humanity.

Oh they can be cured, and permanently too, with just one ride on Osama's swingset!

No more pesky respectful handling of the satanists koranuses! They wont even remember they have one after just one ride!

Yeah, I agree. The alternative might be to turn these people over to Iraqi or Afghan authorities and let them kill them. Our side does not seem to have the will to win on something like this.

I keep envisioning a future where society says "look at all those good Christians, they died so nicely so Islam could prevail."
