Support the Troops and Their Mission Weekend kicks off Friday morning, September 22 with a delegation of military families and supporters visiting congressional offices to urge Representatives and Senators to not cut and run from the war on terrorists. We will gather at the horseshoe entrance to the Rayburn House Office Building at 10 a.m. on South Capitol Street just below Independence Avenue.
Friday evening, we will gather at the main gate to Walter Reed Army Medical Center from 6:30 p.m. until the dinner buses return (between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.)
WRAMC is located at 7200 Georgia Avenue, NW. The cross street is Elder Street.
Saturday, September 23, we will hold the Support the Troops and Their Mission Rally from noon to 3 p.m. at the Sylvan Theater on the grounds of the Washington Monument. Please plan to arrive by 11:30 a.m. as the drive-by media always undercounts attendance by doing a crowd estimate just before the rally starts and then never changes that number as the crowd grows.
Weather forecast for Friday and Saturday is sunny with lows around 60 degrees and highs in the low 70s.
The Park Service prohibits glass containers, alcoholic beverages and weapons on the Mall. Please take heed. Folding chairs and blankets are okay.
If you want to go up to the top of the Washington Monument before or after the rally, you need to get timed tickets from the visitors booth on the 15th St. side of the monument. The ticket window opens at 8:30 a.m. You might want to line-up earlier.
After the rally, a dinner to celebrate Free Republic's 10th anniversary will be held at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn on the Hill, 415 New Jersey Avenue, NW. Jim Robinson will be the guest of honor.
The dinner will be an informal gathering in the Senator's Grill restaurant. Food and drink will be served a la carte. You will be responsible for however much or little you consume. The restaurant will seat us in groups of seven or eight with one check per group.
PLEASE CHECK IN ON THIS THREAD TO CONFIRM ATTENDANCE AT THE DINNER. The hotel needs to make sure they have adequate staff, etc. FReepers, lurkers and their guests in good standing are welcome. You can also freepmail me your confirmation. Reservations are not required, but it would help immensely to have a head count.

D.C. Chapter mega ping!
sounds do-able, I hope so!
Will there be water available or should we bring our own bottle of water?
Bring your own, please. There is a snack shop a block away on the 15th St. side of the monument.
I hope so, too!
We're ok to bring something to drink as long as it's in plastic?
Also, are we ok with small backpacks or waistbags to carry our wallets and cameras, etc?
Yes and yes. Sunscreen would help, too.
Ok, adding that to my list
Thanks
Oh, one other thing. Will there be a place to sign in? Will there be name badges available? The kind you write your own name on? Or do most people do their own?
As you may have guessed, this is my first! LOL
We expect to make the rally but NOT the dinner.
Definitely coming to the Saturday rally and dinner.
Will try to make Friday, but may not get there in time.
Thanks a lot.
Don't worry about asking too many questions. I'm sure others are wondering the same things.
See you Saturday!
OK. See you at the rally!
OK. Thanks for checking in. See you Saturday, also!
I'm unfortunately unable to attend this important event, but I would like to add my name to those who support this war and I am against any cut-and-run policy. I've already sent my Representative and one of our State Senators a letter stating my position on this issue. I'll send the other Senator a letter today (not that it will matter to either of California's liberal Senators).
RSVP'ing for the dinner. I'll plan to be there! Thanks again for coordinating/organizing this.
Duh to myself, I'll be at the rally (and WRAMC) also. Purpose of previous post was for the headcount.
