Australian newspapers are notorious for getting titles and honourifics wrong. The one that really annoys me is that Australian newspapers often refer to our last Chief of the Defence Force as 'Major-General Peter Cosgrove' - he's very popular and is quite often mentioned as a potential Governor-General so he's mentioned a fair bit.
He was a Major-General at the time he became well known in Australia - when he was given command of Australian troops in East Timor in 1999. But for some reason, Australian journalists couldn't seem to grasp that he stopped being a Major-General after that - he had two further promotions through Lieutenant-General to General - and the newspapers still constantly get it wrong. It's insulting that they don't take the care they should.
