No. It's never, ever, EVER better that a Republican lose. Remember Jim Jeffords. That switch cost us innumerable votes---even though he wouldn't have voted for the legislation---because it bottled things (including GOOD JUDGES) up in committee. This is short-sighted thinking.I totally agree, LS. As much as I hate to say it, I hope Chafee manages to pull it off and return to the Senate - we need that Republican seat. I'm concerned he's so behind in recent polls...

If the general election for US Senate were being held today between Ralph Ferrucci, of the Green party, Timothy Knibbs, of the Concerned Citizens party, Ned Lamont, the Democrat, Joe Lieberman, of the Connecticut for Lieberman party, and Alan Schlesinger, the Republican, for whom would you vote? <<
Schlesinger.
>> If the general election for US Senate were being held today between Lincoln Chafee, the Republican, and Sheldon Whitehouse, the Democrat, for whom would you vote? <<
Neither. I think you meant between "Lincoln Chafee, the Democrat, and Sheldon Whitehouse, the other Democrat"

From Chaffee, you'll get an occasional correct vote. From his democRAT opponent, you'll get none. Not a *SINGLE* one. Why? Simply put, because the most venomous,*genuine* democRATS you'll find in this country are those you'll find in New England. There are *no* DINO's here. <<
2005 conservative ratings for select New England politicians:
Lynch (DEMOCRAT-Mass.)
.
...21%
McNulty (DEMOCRAT-NY)
.. 16%
Higgins (DEMOCRAT-NY)
. 16%
Michaud (DEMOCRAT-Maine)
16%
Towns (DEMOCRAT-NY)
..14%
CHAFEE (RINO-RI)
..............
..12%
Hmmm.

Which way would any of those vote in a caucus vote? Or for cloture? Don't kid yourself. If party labels didn't count, then Joe Lieberman would caucus with us, and Jeffords wouldn't have switched.

Right, we all know these numbers. Let me post Chafee last message, taken from his website.
Day 3: Whitehouse plan for Iraq both supports and opposes timetable - Chafees principled opposition to war in stark contrast to Whitehouses indecision
September 29, 2006 In a new television advertisement, Sheldon Whitehouse is quoted as saying of Iraq, It's time for people who want to serve in the United States Senate to stand up and say what their plan is (Simple,www.whitehouseforsenate.com). However, in a Providence Journal article, Mr. Whitehouses spokesperson was unable to provide details about his plan and failed to explain why Mr. Whitehouse has flip flopped on the issue of a timetable for troop withdrawal (Iraq is focus of Senate jabs, Providence Journal, September 28, 2006). As it now stands the Whitehouse plan, does not endorse a fixed timetable, stating that withdrawal should be determined by the commanders on the ground.'' This stance is contradicted by the fact that Mr. Whitehouse also claims that he supports the Kerry amendment which provides a set timetable for redeployment of troops in Iraq by July 1, 2007. When the majority of Democrats and Republicans supported the war, Lincoln Chafee had the courage to publicly state that invading Iraq was wrong, said Ian Lang, Chafee Campaign Manager. As a latecomer to the issue, Mr. Whitehouse has been indecisive and waffling. In fact, he has been unable to explain how he can be both for a fixed timetable and against one. His commercials say one thing. His public statements say another. And he has been unable to explain why he rejects a timetable for troop withdrawal, at the same time he supports an amendment that sets a specific timetable for troop redeployment. You cannot release an advertisement that trumpets a plan for Iraq, only to draw a blank when pressed on the details. How is contradicting yourself a plan?
Mr. Whitehouse, how can you be both for a timetable and against it?
Lincoln Chafee is running to become a proud liberal moonbat, in republican clothes.
